It’s the END… of this quilt along
I’ve had a lot of fun and it’s been fun to see progress of those of you sewing along…
So here’s the last parts of the quilt.
from small blue floral cut (4) 4 1/2” x 16 1/2” strips
From large blue floral cut (6) WOF strips 4 1/2” wide, cut 2 in half and sew to the ends of the other 4 then trim to 48 1/2” for the outer border
From Yellow cut (4) 4 1/2” squares
(If you want to cut binding strips now then cut (7) 2 1/2” WOF strips)
Sew two blue 16 1/2” strips to top and bottom of appliqued center block, also sew the small shoo fly blocks to the ends of the remaining two blue 16 1/2” strips. Iron toward blue strips, then sew the sides.
Sew diamond blocks to the sides of the red star blocks, iron toward diamonds.
I folded the red blocks in half and marked with a pin to know where to center, JUST in case the diamond block is a bit off.
(Shhh! but it’s okay to FUDGE a little in quilting- I always do)
Iron these sections to top and bottom of center quilt, meanwhile sew the other star blocks to the sides of the the remaining two strips, making sure the yellow is placed right
Iron outward on the main center block piece and toward the diamond on the longer pieces.
Sew corner yellow squares to ends of two outer border strips.
Sew two “plain” outer border strips to top and bottom of quilt top, iron outward, then sew the remaining strips to the sides.
I actually like to use my binding strips as leaders and enders while I make a quilt OR sew one step ahead instead.
VOILA! the top is done!!
I also managed to QUILT it
I did a tiny stippling/meandering on the yellow part of the appliqued center block
Curves from corner to corner on the star blocks
Feathers on the inner border and the diamond blocks
A leaf vine on the outer border
I used every scrap for the backing and another 2 yards (I think) for it too, this yardage is from the same line but it didn’t quite match the front.
I also embroidered a label on my new brother machine and used EQ Stitch to copy over the flower from the applique!
Here the machine is hard at work
and a screen shot!
Link up anytime you want with your completed quilt or top, I think I will leave this open for a month so maybe until May 1st. If you finish it AFTER may, then just email me the picture (If you want)
Turned out very pretty, Bea!
You do such lovely work ; )
It looks great and I love your label.
