This week we’re only doing 1 block, it’s a bit complicated and odd and also looking at the rest of the blocks, it just fits better if I did 1 block this week 🙂
Block Y is the last block on row 5 and it’s #79 in the book called Silver Lane
it’s on page 19 and 206
Here’s what to cut out:
With light blue cut out 4 of #5, 4 of #4, 4 of #2
with medium blue cut out 4 of #5 and 16 of #5 OR if using the dies you can cut out 8 of die #7 which is a parallelogram, cut half in opposite directions if NOT using a solid fabric)- see the bottom of the post!
with black cut out 4 of #8
with grey cut out 4 of #2 and 8 of #5
First sew the #7 dark blue parallelograms to the sides of the light blue #4 QSTs (or use 2 #5 triangles sewn together)
also sew 4 small HSTs together with light and medium blue
sew the parallelograms to the other side and start sewing the small HSTs together into a pinwheel block (ignore the top of the picture)
sew the pinwheel together
add light grey HSTs to the parallelogram units (forgot to say it’s 4)
then start adding the rectangles and the grey squares like an uneven nine patch
then add the parallelogram units and remaining light blue #2 squares
and sew the block together like this
I had to laugh at the story on page 18-19 by the farmer’s wife mentioning the “trusty Ford” it gotta be the Model T -Ford!
Have you heard what Ford said about his cars back then? He said: ” You can have the car in any color you want as long as it’s black”
Side note! If you’re not cutting a parallelogram shape here’s a tip for using small triangles
the parallelogram is cut kind of odd on the die btw
but if you use 2 small HSTs and sew them together they equal a paralleogram
