Farmer’s Wife QAL Block H

It’s time for the Farmer’s Wife QAL block H

This block is #22 in the book and is called corns and beans, it’s on page 149 and 46

For this you’ll use dark blue and cut out 2 of #3 and 8 of #5

in light blue you’ll cut out 12 of #5

and in grey cut out 6 of #3 and 20 of #5

I changed it a bit make assembly a bit easier so it’s quarter blocks instead of going in rounds.

sew together 8 small HSTs in dark blue and grey and 4 in light blue and grey

this next part of a bit tricky, not really tricky but more odd I guess, make 4 sections of each below adding a light blue #5 triangle above the light blue and grey HSTs and a grey one below, then adding a grey #5 triangle above 4 dark blue and grey HSTs and then a light blue #5 triangle above 4 dark blue and grey HSTs

lay them out like this

and sew them together

then on all 4 sections add the #3 grey triangles on the top, on 2 of them add a dark blue #3 triangle and on the last 2 add the remaining grey #3 triangles.

then sew the block together like this!

instead of talking about the story on page 46, I wanted to again show how we’re growing corns and beans, they were seeds in Sonja’s science program with the Sonlight curriculum for homeschooling, part of the experiments we did were to have beans or seeds be crowded in a container vs not crowded, one time we have to add petrolium jelly on the top of one leaf and on the bottom of one leaf to see where it gets the chlorophyll from (or whatever THAT it called) also she had to sketch out progress of daily growth of the plants, at the end we transplanted them outside and they have really thrived (including getting damaged in a storm recently)
