Blocks DD and EE are very similar but are constructed a bit differently, they are on row 6 and 7 below
Block DD is #89 and is called Steps to the Altar, it’s on pages 91 and 216
Here’s what to cut out with grey cut out 9 of shape #2
with black cut out 6 of #2, 6 of #5 and 2 of #1
with dark blue cut out 2 of #3
When I make a complicated block like this I often lay out all the pieces on my table first and then figure out what the logical of putting it together is, here I looked at it like a 3×3 grid.
First sew the large dark blue and black HSTs together then 3 sets of the small HSTs to grey squares and 6 sets of black and grey #2 squares
the next step is to add the remaining 3 small HSTs and turn the #2 square units into four patches
Then add the large HSTs to the black and grey units -2 black and 1 dark blue – I know it’s hard to see
then sew the block together like this!
Block EE is #91 in the book and it’s called Strawberry basket and it’s on page 87 and 218 and very similar to the basket block above!
Here’s what to cut out
with light blue cut out 2 of #3 and 2 of #1
with medium blue cut out 7 of #2, 4 of #5, 1 of #8 and 1 of #3 (you might have some of these as leftover from previously cut pieces, I don’t remember)
with dark blue cut out 9 of #2
and with black cut out 1 of #3 (that might also be a leftover piece from previous blocks)
very similar to above, make one large HST then 2 blue #5 and dark blue #2 squares and 7 sets of #2 squares of blue and dark blue
sew the remaining #5 medium blue triangles to the block, make 3 four patches and 1 where the #8 rectangle is added
then add the light blue large HSTs to the 2 blocks
and sew the block together like this
The letter on page 88 and 89 talks about friendships and groups where you have common interests, that’s so important! I do miss going to quilt guilds, I just can’t right now, but I do wish to start one maybe locally, we’ll see. Are you part of a quilt guild?
