It’s time for another block for the Farmer’s Wife QAL!
Block 5 is the top right corner, it’s pretty simple!
It’s called Calico Puzzle and is block #16 in the book on page 143 and 118.
You’ll need Light Grey, Light blue and Dark Blue and dies #3 and #1
In Light Grey cut out 4 of shape #3 and 1 of shape #1
In Light Blue cut out 4 of shape #3
In Dark Blue cut out 4 of shape #1
Sew the #3 HSTs together, easy peasy
Then start sewing the blocks together
And it looks like this!
I again chuckled at reading the story about the Farmer’s wife on these pages, she loves the modern things in a “newer” farm like their piano and phonograph! That her daughter’s don’t have the “Jazz and Movie” habit like city girls!!
Nowadays it seems like the movie industry is dying, I know a local movie theater near our church closed because of Covid, but another one I know of near by really struggled before Covid. Movies are such a hassle to go to, they are great, but expensive, if we’d go as a family, it’s $100 with popcorn and tickets! The last time we went was to a movie theater that a few $ more per ticket but has leather seats and recliners and in the lobby area they have a bar, so you can buy a drink and bring it with you and the leather chairs have little tables, it’s very nice!
Before Covid I took the girls to see Frozen2 and if you’ve been it, near the end they are getting away from these rock giants in a boat and it’s a wild scene, I was so engrossed in it and thought the effects were awesome with the lights and sounds, then 5sec later we all realized it was the fire alarm going off! So we had to go out the back door and mill around to the front, so find out it was a small grease fire in the kitchen and they quickly got it under control but couldn’t let us back in until the fire department came and said it was ok to go in, then inside we were give free tickets and had the choice to go home or sit and wait for the ONE projector guy to reset the movies in all the theaters (I think 8 or 12 were going at once?) we sat down and saw the last 30 min TWICE then, not realizing it was so close to the end and the movie got reset WAY back…. we actually got TWO replacement tickets so I think 8 total, so it was great for us, we went back several times for other movies!
Now it seems that Netflix and Amazon etc are making such great shows and movies that we can’t possibly watch them all and they are good quality and have great actors in them! We’ve had Netflix for years, since the days of the DVDs in the mail! But we don’t have Prime. We seem to mostly watch series lately, just because by the time we go to bed, we can’t stay away for another 2hrs, where a 1hr show is just perfect!
We seldom went to the movies before Covid. Not at all since Covid. I tend to buy DVD’s & Blu-Rays instead. We have over 2100 titles in our collection (and add to it all the time, especially from thrift stores and garage sales, where they are really cheap). My sewing room has a TV (no cable) and Blu-Ray player, so having a collection is perfect. No streaming services for us. And there isn’t much on cable that is worth watching anymore.
