Falling pinwheels my version with QUBE set

Once in a while I get asked by Accuquilt to just write a pattern for them from a picture where someone else made the quilt but didn’t write the pattern.

Falling for pinwheels was one of them

Since I wrote the pattern I already had it in EQ and my grey scrap bin was overflowing and I had enough yellow yardage to make it a bit bigger, so here was my idea.

Look at my printout below, I had actually planned to have the kite shapes in grey and the triangles in yellow but someone when I started cutting and maybe I marked the die # on the paper, I ended up flipping the colors, oh well, gotta keep going!

I used the 6″ QUBE set btw.

The pieces were leader and enders for a while, I think I cut these in July and I wasn’t in a hurry to finish them, but finally the top was done

Then I figured, why not add rectangles on the borders and yellow corner stones?! I like how it frames the quilt now.

Now the top measures 42″ x 48″

I waited a while to quilt it as I didn’t have a good backing for it until now!

I quilted a design built in to QCT called “diamonds” in light yellow thread

For the back I used this odd fabric I think I got from Fat quarter shop, it said Moda and I didn’t realize it came in just 1yd cuts- which is not that big of a deal, it looks like denim but is soft, I don’t know what they call it, but I had ordered 2yds, so I was able to cut those up and fit as a backing and it worked well!

I also recently got a bolt of batting from Mountain Mist off of amazon, I was a bit skeptical about it but it has a nice loft to it and quilts really nicely! so I might buy that again!!

here’s a close up of the quilting

I’ll probably add this to my donation pile as I don’t have any plans for this quilt.

  1. The piano key border was an excellent choice. It makes a great frame for the blocks.
