FALL EQ blog Hop tutorial and giveaway

Thanks to SewCalGal for having this fall EQ blog hop!

Here’s a little tutorial for Electric Quilt users.

I used EQ7.

Now with the FALL theme in mind, I searched for a block names LEAF and found this one below.

lots of LEAF blocks come up, not much under LEAVES or FALL.

I don’t really care for this blocks but liked the leaves on the corners, so I decided to modify the block.

Once you add it to the sketchbook, you can go an modify it under BLOCKS. this is an appliqued block so under the applique tab I clicked and deleted the four yellow leaves and the center.

Then with the CIRCLE and CTRL pressed down at the same time, I drew 3 circles, there is also a CENTER button on the top bar to center everything on the block and you can also move the indivual parts back and forth sort of like layers.

I then colored my block and added it back to the sketchbook

I created a 5 x 5 layout and also found this “four X” block under simple blocks.

I added the leaf applique in the center, then added the “four X” block in the alternate blocks by pressing ALT while clicking once. Then I thought the leaf blocks should go in a T pattern like below.

I also decided to color each triangle that touched the leaf block the same tan/brown as the background.

Then I looked for another simpler block and found this diamond in a square block called “economy patch” and added that in the missing spaces.

now onto coloring I colored the diamonds the same colors in fall colors and filled in the alternate triangles from the X block in red. It’s looking better!

Then I thought it needed a green border.

And then I decided that the triangles that touched the green border should also be green.

Getting better!- I also changed the background color to a more brownish color

While under the BORDERS tab and on border 1 it showed that finished size would be 49″ so I figured a border with 7 blocks on the sides would fit well.

I found a nice rail fence block and added that and colored it in the fall colors as well

Then I thought the corner diamonds of the quilt should be different than the other four, so I changed the colors a little. I like THIS!

I also tried to then “remove” the green triangles that touched the border and instead colored those the same brown/ tan.

so you see, it’s so much fun to just play around with the layouts and blocks and color placement.

anytime you’ve made a change and you like it, add it to the sketchbook and keep going, because then if you don’t like your next step you can just open up the quilt already in the sketchbook and start from that point on.

Now wouldn’t this leaf block also look cute as a simple pillow?

either this way with a simple border

Or repeating the border like the quilt just having the stripes go around the quilt instead.

So TRY it… play with EQ!
