I think I have a problem! It’s saying YES to every blog hop I see! yeah it’s a thing…. maybe I’m a blog hop block head?? BHBH!!
well when Joan came up with the theme of a freebie blog hop, it just seemed so fun, how could I resist??
Now it took me a while to figure out WHAT I wanted to do, and I don’t like to do things last minute! (I decided what I wanted to do and what I wanted to give away on Thursday and made this cute little pincushion)
-Of course I made a pincushion!!
It’s made with (4) tulip blocks that I sewed together and then added a backing and turned into a pincushion!
Here’s how I made it
First I printed the page (there’s 9 on a page, but you only need 4)
Then I picked out some red and teal batik scraps
at first I cut out the papers and left room around the dotted lines, then folded on all the lines- I had an old paypal credit card near by sewing machine so that was nice and flat so I used that to help fold/crease the papers on the lines.
Then I cut out first a dark green and a teal piece of fabric for each, and with a regular foot on the machine and stitch length of 1.5 I lined up the two fabrics under #1 spot overlapping about 1/4” (right sides together) and stitched a bit before the line between #1 and #2 and extended a bit over too.
Then ironed the red so the fabric opened up and it’s now right sides facing me on the paper (not the side with the drawings on it)
Then I folded back the line to #3 and used a 1/4” ruler and trimmed the fabrics
then laid a teal background piece under it, right sides together and lining it up to the 1/4” cut edge of the others and sewed on that line, again extending it before and after the line a bit, then iron, fold on the line to #4 and trim, then fabric #4 is red and I continued on until the block was done, which was only 7 pieces, so easy peasy!
Here are the blocks all done
when the blocks were done, I trimmed 1/4” from the solid line, which should be the dotted line (mine was off, and I realized it was my printer settings, I forgot to print AS IS but I think the printer shrunk everything a bit, it didn’t matter much as I was trimming 1/4” from the solid line and I was only making 4 for a pincushion!
after trimming I ripped out the papers and the right one shows what it looks like from the front.
then I sewed the 4 blocks together like this, and added another teal piece in the same size, right sides together but leaving an opening on one side for stuffing.
and I stuffed it with fiber fill and whip stitched it closed.
Thanks to Joan for organizing this fun blog hop!
