Back again with more Accuquilt QUBE blocks!
If you saw the last tutorial I only got to block #1 out of 72! ha ha, I promise to speed up.
First you get the block pattern booklet here
I’m skipping block #2
It’s just flying geese and HSTs- EASY! and fun to play with
and going to #3 a boat
I made this as mug rugs before and found a few shortcuts instead of all squares and triangles
if you search for it in the EQ library it’s actually there under “BOAT”
so add it to sketchbook and edit it
just use the pick tool and click the lines on the sides, the middle of the boat and the right and left of the water, so there’s rectangles, which is shape #8 in the QUBE set
For the mug rugs I used the 6” QUBE set, so design a new quilt with just 1×1 block in it and make the block size 6”
Then under borders un-check the ALL and T+B and L+R
and drag all the borders to 0 except for the right side I chose to make it 3”
This is a nice way to make mug rugs with random blocks or you can just add a bit on the right AND the left, that’s up to you
Block #4 is broken dishes
it’s in EQ
You can just use it like this or shrink and flip like I showed in my last tutorial, or you can also modify it and remove the middle lines so you have the on point block in the middle.
Do you see what it looks like??
a variable star!
there’s a ton of them in EQ under “variable star” category
the next block is broken sash
I know I’ve seen that before!
it’s called double cross! (I had to look that up, but just because I had it in my sketchbook already, I just “moused” over and it showed the name
next block is clay’s choice
same name in EQ8, now I just search for “clay”
the next one is depression
I couldn’t search for it but found twelve triangles, even this block can be made with the QUBE set
it should be easy enough to just add the side triangles
the next block is the diamond star
we already found that under variable star earlier.
#8 is double cross
I searched for “double” and there’s quite a few double X’s, so have your pick!
and the double four patch was the next block, that one is the first block that comes up when searching for “double”
there’s a few more double cross or double X blocks on the list, next is dutchman’s puzzle
that’s the same name in EQ
next is flashing windmill
this is what comes up in EQ when searching for windmill
but under the simple block category, I would probably take one of the four patch variations and just add lines to make them pinwheels
anyways, got enough blocks? want more?? Or kind of get the idea of looking for simpler blocks and modifying them to fit, and who knows! maybe you come up with 72 OTHER blocks instead
try it and HAVE FUN!
