Have you ever wanted to make a fun sampler with different sized blocks but still keeping it symmetrical and simple!?
It’s EASY and fast!
First you have to have a plan about what size you want the blocks and my layout has a large block then 4 blocks together that are the same size alternating thruout the layout. And it’s a 3×4 layout (If it was just large blocks)
So first you have to design that as a block.
I created a new block that’s 6×8 (just to make it easier to see, the idea is 3×4 still, but dealing with 1” is just fiddly)
Then on the left I selected the grid tool and did a 3×4 grid
drag that from top left to bottom right
Then I went back to the grid tool and did a 2×2 grid in the top left square
and filled in every other block like that
then add this block to the sketchbook
Next in the quilt worktable, select Quilt/ create quilt from block
I then did this one 36” x 48” (12” x 3 and 12” x 4”)
Now add to sketchbook and you can add whatever blocks you want!
You can add the same blocks or do them all different!
You can create lots of different quilts from quilt blocks, just keep the blocks with square pieces in it.
Have fun!
I'll have to investigate that tcehnique more when I have free time. But I think you got my wheels turning;)
This is a great tutorial – I need to play with this!
