EQ8 tutorial Tuesday- Quick Quilts

Have you ever started a project in EQ and noticed the “start with a quick quilt project” option?

Have you clicked on it to see what’s there?

There’s 11 options

But each option has lots of different quilts in it too!

under “Easy quilts”

There’s a simple layout with ohio star blocks

then a quilt with logs

then flying geese with sashing columns!

and 3 more.

The log cabin section shows 5 quilts!

the medallion quilts show 9 quilts

There’s lots in the others too, look at this bargello under Strip quilts!

You can look at the rest in each section yourself

But let’s just look at a few of the ones I showed above.

First is the log/brick one in the under “easy quilts”

When you open up “easy quilts” you have to scroll to the right to see the 2nd quilt in the sketchbook and select the brick/log quilt

When you select it and go to layout, you’ll see it’s a horizontal strip layout, then it’s pieced blocks and with it being 42” wide and selecting 7 blocks, it works with 6” x 2” finished “bricks”

then the 2nd row is half drop blocks

If you wanted to add more rows, you’d just put a check mark in the 2nd to last row and clone the selected strip and click Add, then again chose the 2nd to last row and keep going. (I’ve shown this before)

Another quilt that looked interesting is the medallion quilt, I opened it up and the monkey wrench blocks in a circle are part of the compass block!

It’s “just” an easydraw block, but that surely takes some planning!

looking in the sketchbook under blocks is fun to see the blocks from the surrounding borders and their names

Lastly we’ll take a peek at the bargello quilt

It’s a vertical strip quilt and the strips just get skinnier and wider at certain spots

So, just a little preview of the quickquilts, a section I often bypass, but it’s fun to take a quilt and try to figure out HOW it’s designed then get inspired by that and do your own thing or modify an existing one and make it your own!
