Are you fascinated with mini blocks?
They are SO cute and some make great mini quilts or pincushions!
I don’t know if it’s much of a tutorial but just ideas for minis
First let’s look around in EQ a bit for some fun blocks, my first place to look is under foundation blocks
under crazy blocks misc. there’s some cute ones
I added the star and a heart block to the sketchbook
(oh and look at the leaf block, that was the start for the leaf blocks in the quilt I recently made for a magazine!
next under flying geese there’s some nice ones too
I added some different ones
under holidays- christmas there’s some neat blocks too, I used the angel block for the row along last year
Let’s add the angle, and the first Christmas tree.
I also added a pineapple from the pineapple section
here’s what I have in my sketchbook for now
Now under the quilt layout, select 1×1 layout and the block 4” x 4”, I left the 1” border for now
Now I started with the heart block and I adjusted the borders to 1/2” so the mini or pincushion will be 5” finished.
Let’s see what it will look like as a foundation template
click the print export tab, then click the block and the foundation pattern will be colored (not grey now)
you can then click print, but I like to always click the preview button first
look how cute and small it is!
You can also click and move the sections, the block sections are color coded and numbered, and there’s the 1/4” seam allowance around the block sections.
Now let’s so back to the block, I inserted a block with 6 flying geese
Now look what it looks like when I changed it to 3” x 6” block
and it looks great when printing foundation patterns!
under OPTIONS when printing I selected “print as many as fits”
and look what happened! there’s 2 on the page now, great for a pincushion, as the front and back!!
Here’s the tree in a 3” block with 3/4” borders
and 4 can fit on a page when printing it
You get the idea with the rest, I definitely recommend FPP blocks for small blocks, even if you COULD rotary cut them, because they are so small it’s just better and more accurate to foundation piece them
Have you tried any mini blocks?
