I often get asked about what design program I use and if it’s “worth it” and the answer is always, YES get EQ8 you won’t regret it, it’s awesome and you can do so many things with it.
First of all it has LOTS of blocks already in the library and there’s different categories too and one that’s often overlooked is foundation blocks!
When you look under the block libraries, under 03 there’s a foundation pieced section
and more sub sections under that
since it’s December, I opened up the Christmas section
then I added the 2nd block the tree to the sketchbook and opened it up
here’s what the drawing looks like
then with the pick tool I went in and deleted the angled lines
and colored it again
now it’s just as easy to delete more and draw lines vertically on the tree too (though I wouldn’t want to sew all those seams by the top!)
then I colored it
I then went in and “printed” it as a foundation patter and here EQ split it into two sections
under the options tab I chose 4″ x 4″ as a custom size and colored fill, or you can do gray scale or just a line drawing and you can choose if you want to add numbering or not or you can even click the numbering tab and click around in the order you want to do as sometimes the EQ numbering might not be what you want.
here’s what it would look like printed
Then I went back and changed the size to 3″ x 3″ and selected (print as many as fit) and it was able to “print” 4 on one page!
It’s fun to modify existing blocks in EQ and I love the foundation paper piecing section, there’s so many options!
Try it out!!
I really enjoy your tutorials – I have EQ8 and am learning the program but loving it! Between EQ8 and Accuquilt, I don’t know how I got along before I had them! Love reading your blog!
Thanks for sharing.
