This week’s tutorial is simple but good to know
Do you ever TURN or rotate your fabrics in EQ?
I do a LOT especially on borders or with a striped fabric!
Here’s a simple on point layout
I imported IN BLUE that was part of the new 2017 fabric stash
and then put it into the center square of a block, of course it looks fine on the computer, but unless you cut this on the bias, the fabric would actually be turned 45 degrees
like this!!
So I would probably NOT use this fabric for this block on point like this.
Now a simple diamond block works just fine
here I created a new quilt horizontal layout
and the bike fabric would look just fine in there
here’s some different fabrics and I added a stripe
it looks fine, but I’d like to turn the strips on half the triangles
on the right tool bar, there’s a rotate fabric button
(if there’s not, add it by selecting that dashed line at the bottom and a pop up will give you the choice to add it.
after clicking the rotate fabric button, a pop up shows SIMPLE, advanced or alight to edge, I’ve never used the last option, but once in a while use the advanced
If you click simple, it turns the fabric 90 degrees for each click
With advanced I usually just use 45 degrees
so this block the fabric looks fine but it would be cut on the bias as above
by selecting 45 degrees, it’s now correct how it would be cut
I really use the rotate tool the most on borders.
This layout is fine AS IS, but I want to see what it would REALLY look like
so I rotated the side border 90 degrees
You can also fussy cut the fabrics
Then click a fabric in the blocks and move it around
with stripes I sometimes like to add a really skinny 1/4” – 1/2” border and pretend it’s the binding- just in EQ to see what the binding would look like
play around with the rotate/ turning fabric tool and have fun!
