EQ7 Tutorial Tuesday–review of one patch

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

It’s funny how inspiration hits me about doing these EQ7 tutorials, last week I got several emails about an old post I did about tumblers and then comments about the last tutorial on one patch quilts, so I figured I’d do a sort of review on the one patch quilts, as it’s a lot of fun to use!

When you open EQ, start by creating a new quilt:

Quilt/ new quilt/ one patch

image

My last quilt I worked on was hexagons, so that’s what it shows

image

When you click the layout tab at the bottom left, there’s a pop up box that shows your one patch design- here again it’s hexagons

image

When you open up the patch style, there’s LOTS of options

Custom,

Hexagons (H)

Hexagons (V)

Lightning

Trapezoid (H)

Trapezoid (V)

House

Diamonds

Kite

cobblestone

Thousands pyramids

Tumblers

Rectangles

Custom (glide)

image

Under custom, it shows a cobblestone design

image

You can actually go in and drag the dashed line of the sketch in the pop up

here I dragged the top line all the way up and moved the vertical lines a bit too

image

image

here I created a chisel

image

Next there’s hexagons H –horizontal

so the straight edge of the hexagon is horizontal

image

Hexagon V is the vertical version

You can adjust the edge length of course, default is 1” (1” sides) that’s how you buy the paper pieces or if using Accuquilt dies, they measure the side of the hexagon NOT the widest part.

image

Next is lightning

image

You can also change the width and the height

here I did a 4” x 2” that’s a good size for a flying geese shape!

image

Or a 4”x4” is like the isosceles triangle (I think)

image

Next is Trapezoid, that’s like a tumbler!

image

Horizontal vs Vertical

image

If changing the measurements again it looks like the wedge die from accuquilt!

image

But notice on both of these, that they are the exact same rows, they face the same way.

Next is the house shape

image

Of course you can change the size of that too

image

Next is diamond

image

If you change the width and height to be the same, it’s like an ON point layout

image

Or you can make then shorter and wider

image

Next is the kite shape

image

looks quite different when it’s made wider

image

Cobblestone is pretty basic, it’s octagons with matching squares.

Great for english paper piecing!

image

image

next is thousand pyramids

it’s different than lightning, as here the sides match up together, so the wide bottom touches another wide bottom or top and the tips touch each other.

image

This is a nice layout to do the equilateral triangle layout in!

image

Next is the tumbler.

Just like the lightning and pyramids go together, the tumbler goes with the trapezoid, depending if you want the rows to mirror/match each other or you want the rows to be the same as the one above!

image

Here you can stretch it again to look like the accuquilt wedge die

image

Next is rectangles, well rectangles are rectangles!

of course you can change the measurements of those too!

image

Last is the custom glide and I get kind of like a tumbler shape that I can adjust

image

here’s an uneven tumbler

image

Out of all of these layouts, I probably use the tumbler/trapezoid and the hexagons the most!

I’ve done tutorials on both of these Smile

try out the different one patch designs and let me know which one is your favorite!??
