EQ7 Tutorial Tuesday – Sunbonnet Sue layouts

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

This week’s tutorial is more of a block inspiration post.

As you can tell, I’ve had a “thing” for sunbonnet sue lately, so here’s some layouts I’ve made.

First, if you search for Sunbonnet under the block search you’ll see these

image

the ones with a stippled/dashed line around them are actually MOTIFS (applique)

so the purple one in the middle I’ve used a lot and also the block above it.

Here’s some other blocks I added

and under motifs I have these (I was also working with other accuquilt dies for this file)

image

I started off with this layout and made the blocks 9” to fit the GO dies

Then on layer 2 I added the sunbonnet sue motif by holding down shift and dragging a square over the center of the block (here I flipped her too) then copied and pasted her to fill the other blocks

I have also played with it in EQ stitch and turned her into a small embroidery and you can only add that as an embellishment on layer 3

here the block size is set to 4” with a 1” sashing

image

then I created a 1” x 4” block with 4 squares and added to the sashing

image

and my latest quilt is this design layout with an alternate ohio star block

Have you made any sunbonnet sue quilts?

  1. I just had an old sunbonnet sue almost finished up. I have to get the binding done. It turned out sew cute. I trusted my quilter to pick out the backing and some border fabricI have to get pictures of it. I hope to blog about it in a week or so.
