EQ7 Tutorial Tuesday – Simple blocks to create and resize

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

I recently had a request on how to create BASIC blocks in EQ, maybe even some that aren’t in the EQ library.

It’s “hard” to think about that, as the library has SO many blocks, but here’s a little bit 🙂

Start by going to the “Work on block” section and create an Easy draw block, I chose 9 x 9” and also had snaps and grids at 9 x 9

image

On the left is a GRID button, click the small red dot and a box pops up where you enter your grid info, here I want to create a basic 9 patch, so a 3 x 3 grid would work.

image

From the top left corner of the block, start in the corner and click and draw and a grid will appear

image

Draw it all the way down to the bottom right corner and VOILA! a nine patch 🙂

image

If you want to create a nine patch in the middle, do CTRL+A or Edit>select ALL and copy and past it once

(CTRL +C and CTRL +V)

image

while this new set of lines is selected, hold down CTRL and drag it to be smaller

image

keep dragging in to fit in the middle of the nine patch

here’s a layout with this block, keeping 9” blocks and a 1” wide sashing and 3” outer border

You can also easily edit a current block, here’s Mother’s dream

(tutorial is in the EQ7 book on page 159) but it kind of goes with this re-sizing tutorial 🙂

add the block to sketchbook and edit it

image

Select ALL again on the easy draw tab

image

select BLOCK>resize at the top

image

enter 50 and 50 for vertical and horizontal and hit OK

image

image

move it to the top left corner

image

then copy and paste it into the remaining 3 corners

image

and color it

image

don’t forget to add to sketchbook

I had this block be 8” x 8” but anything divisible by 4 would work

Here’s a layout with this block with 16” blocks instead and a 3 x 3 block layout, then I held down ALT and the spray can and colored the 2nd block in Yellows and it colored every other block the same way.

Try out any of these two blocks playing around with re-sizing blocks or sections of a block.
