Tonya has come up with more Ahhhh designs and especially putting the same ones together to get a different result or secondary pattern.
Here’s a “simple star” design
Again with her designs I am just “playing” in EQ and not really caring about accurate measurements I just want to see the design and colors.
Start by doing a One patch design and pick Thousand pyramids, do each side 1 1/2” (Ahhhh’s are 3” on each side) I actually did my height 1.375 just so it “looked” right.
I chose a 30 x 24 layout
(but this ahhhh design is only 10 wide)
Now let’s color it.
I’m going with colors red, white and black.
In the upper left corner I started coloring
Here’s the layout
and if you right click and un select outline patches and blocks you’ll see this
here’s a different version
let’s try the random recolor tool
one click and I got this
(funny it changed the background too)
going back to the black and white I deleted the top two blocks and added one at the bottom.
(If doing it like this in real EPP I’d just use the diamond shapes all the way around,
but Tonya likes to fussy cut fabrics and the results are stunning- I do too)
randomly coloring it
after lots of clicking I got this- fun!
again back to the red and white and black blocks
after a while you can pick one color and fill in lots of places before changing colors, but you almost get cross eyed
and keep going!
do you see this other pattern forming too? like rings?
Now one “easy” way to change the colors are with the spray can tool
pick your color with the spray can, hold down CTRL while clicking somewhere on the block ( I picked white)
but since it’s a triangle layout, it doesn’t count EACH white, but a lot of them, so you may have to repeat a few times, but easy compared to clicking each white block!
four more clicks and I have this
and here is a blue version- no surprise that I love Blue!
and without outlines
BTW If you want to buy these Ahhhh’s
it’s here
Want to try and design your own version of “simple star”?
Link up below with your EQ sketch of it.
Tonya is sponsoring a GIVEAWAY TOO, a set of 7 of these so you can make the small table topper version like above, you’ll get the cardstock pieces and you use your own fabric stash and make them however you want.
Comment below what colors you might do these in, if you won.
2nd comment for Hillbilly shop followers on facebook
3rd comment if you linked below with a design.
I’ll pick a winner Monday the 19th
I would do mine in purples I have now developed a good sized stash that I find pleasing to the eye. I will mix some in the beginning fabrics in.
I also follow/am a fan of Hillbilly Quilt Shop.
Black, white and grays would be my choice. Follow on Facebook, Hillbilly shop and youtube….:-)
Great tutorial Bea, if I did EPP this would be fun.
I have always wanted to do a low volume! I think this would be beautiful in the soft colours!
I have been searching for snowflakes, because I want to do them in blue and white. I love these!
I follow them on Facebook!
I'm loving Black/White/Gold at the moment, my first attempt at epp wasn't too bad as there were only a few pieces, if I were to do a bigger project then I'd go the buying the papers route, unfortunately the Hillbilly Quilt Shop isn't on my doorstep, (sad sigh) As I don't know how to insert an image, I've changed my profile pic to the epp block I made for my BOM quilt.
Here is my post on how I did it. I follow your directions and gave you credit. I link back to your blog and Tonya's site.http://stitchedwithfriends.blogspot.com/2014/05/eq7-tutorial-tuesday.htmlThis was a lot of fun!
