EQ7 Tutorial Tuesday- Kite quilt

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

Last week you saw the post about my recent KITE quilt in Quiltmaker

So I figured I’d show how I designed it in EQ7 Smile

The block is actually called hummingbird in EQ

image

and since I had the 4” kite die, I made the block 8” and did a 4×5 layout

image

I then added it and started playing with colors

image

since it was part of RSC16 and there’s 20 blocks here, I knew each color should be used twice with 10 colors total.

image

now instead of deleting this border and starting over, I inserted a border

image

and since the kite block is really 4” I added BLOCKS for this inner border and chose 8 x 10

image

and then colored the border pieces randomly to match the kites on the quilt

image

This time around I also added a 1/2” border on the outside, it’s not a border however, it was just for me visually seeing what a scrappy binding would look like!

image

and it’s easy to add by being on border #1 and clicking CLONE and then adding a new border and just adjusting the width

Here’s more kite quilts I’ve designed in EQ

and one with sashing

kite quilts are fun! and with the GO die, it’s SEW easy!

  1. Here you go again making spend my money. LOL I always want the die cut you used. I like the red variation you showed but all the Kite tops looked fun.Have you used the Log Cabin die cut? I haven't figured out exactly how to use it yet. It's probably simple but it doesn't make sense totally. I'm gonna put 3 different colors on it and cut and then use how I want color wise. Any suggestions?
