I’m sure you may have seen my Graceful Flower’s quilt blog post and pattern on accuquilt!
I’m going to show you how I ended up coming up with this idea for Accuquilt.
Since I have the 8” QUBE set, I of course made the quilt layout 8” blocks and a 5 x 7 layout
The star block was the main block and is part of their 144 block design set.
I also created a signature block (I can’t remember if that’s part of the 144 blocks, the signature block die is part of the companion set)
Oh, and the fabrics are GRACE from connecting threads
I also used a four X block which will be rotary cut
at first I added the four and the signature blocks as alternate blocks in the layout
and then added in the star blocks in the middle
then rotated the signature and four X blocks
The quilt now measures 40 x 56”
Then I added a 2” inner border so “match” the math of the 8” QUBE (1/4 of the size) so now it’s 44 x 60
Then the outer border, I added blocks and made it 4” wide and to make the math work, 44 divided by 4 is 11 and 60 divided by 4 is 15
Then I added the rail block (whatever it’s called) to match the die that’s 2 x 4” in the QUBE set and a four patch on the corners.
I’ve shown the different color versions before.
But you can also have fun with the recolor tool/ wand
then click “map to fabrics” and click again on the quilt
then randomize again and match to fabrics- this is almost patriotic!
You can keep going but this should be enough to inspire you
and of course it works with any QUBE set, just modify the outer borders so the math is right.
Great tutorial Bea and a beautiful quilt! I have never used the Random Recolor…….off to try that out!
