EQ7 Tutorial Tuesday – Friendship star block

beaquiltersEQ7tutorialtuesday

An online friend was asking me about EQ7 and the friendship star and modifying it and I said YES to all her questions, so Terry; this is for you!

First find the star block under Libraries/ Block library

image

I just search for FRIEND and these came up

image

add the first one to the sketchbook

image

Now Terry’s block is for a Quilt along but finished blocks should be 20” which is kind of odd for a block with 3 sections.

image

Now there’s different options, one idea I had was to have it be 18” with a 1” border around.

under the block worktable I created a 20” block

image

then made 1” sections all the way around like this

and added to sketchbook

Now here’s the fun part

still working on the block at the top go under block/serendipity/merge blocks

image

and you’ll see the two blocks and if you click on the frame on the left and the star on the right, they merge and you just add them to the sketchbook

image

Now the cutting directions make much more sense

image

Now if we go back to the original friendship star block and keep it 18” we can easily draw in another star in the middle.

I kept grid and snaps at 18 as well

image

First I drew in a nine patch

image

Then finish off the star

image

and color it

image

again merging it with the frame

it looks like this

image

and cutting directions are still pretty simple

image

Now a 3 x 3 quilt with 2” sashing and 4” border would be 76” x 76” and look like this

image

and here using Sublime from Island Batik

  1. Another good tutorial Bea. I love the small star in the middle. So is there a download somewhere of the Island Batik fabrics for EQ7 or are you scanning in your fabric?
