I saw a question somewhere a while ago (probably the FB EQ group) about if you design a quarter of a block, is there a way to quickly make the other 3 quarters so you have a full block and I had to play a little to find out but it’s very easy!
First I designed a block
and you COULD make it a 4×4 layout or something like that and flip the blocks around
from this
to this
but there’s an easier way!
in the block work table at the top menu bar there’s BLOCK/ serendipity
the first one is frame block and you have lots of options
you select the frame on the left and the block on the right and then add to sketchbook
the next one is tilt block
which is helpful for blocks if you want it tilted in different angles or even 45 degrees
the next one is merge blocks
I guess that would be fun like this
next is clip and flip
the little flags at the bottom tells you what way you want to clip and flip
this is like a D9P
Ummm, starting to look like a swastika! don’t want that!!
I’ll come back to shrink and flip but the next is kaleidoscope
just a nine patch looks fun
on the right you can pick which section of the block you want to use
the last one is fancy star
you can pick how many star points you want
now back to shrink and flip!
it takes the block and duplicates it 4 times
look what it does to the braid block!
play around with the flags it can change the block
Quite some different looks!
You can play around with these serendipity options and come up with some fun new blocks!
Thanks Bea. I wish I had known that trick last night. Ha ha. But now it is in my toolbelt. Plus I can use the other Serendipity options. If anyone asks, this *is* in EQ7 also.
Thanks for doing these tutorials. I won the EQ8 software on a blog, and I've been trying to figure it out. I was able to print out the templates I wanted to use for a quilt. Hopefully, in the near future, I can make one of my own.
