English Paper piecing with Island Batik

Needle, Paper, Scissors(1)

The theme for this month’s Island Batik ambassadors is English paper piecing or foundation piecing.

I’m going to show you how I made this cute needle case!

I knew I wanted to use some hexagons, so I got out my 1/2” hexagon die by accuquilt, it’s a fun die, the right side is for the cardstock and the left is for the fabrics!

I used some leftover Christmas scraps for the hexagon fabrics and then used the glue pen from fons and porter

this flower is TINY! but SO cute!!

I then used some more of the Christmas scraps and cut out 2 pieces 4 1/2” x 9” and one in dark green where I folded in half and added a stabilizer/interfacing.

and then ironed the fabric in half over it

I sewed the pocked onto the light brown and added a piece of felt.

I also quilted the tree print on top of a scrap of batting

Then I hand sewed the hexagon flower to the right side of the front piece and decided to leave the cardstock inside the piece.

I then sewed the inside pocked piece together with the back and left an opening at the bottom and then top stitched around

I found that the interfacing made the whole thing rather stiff so it wouldn’t stay closed, so to FIX that, I added a cam-snap! no big deal!

I sent this with another pincushion to my swap partner in Norway

Hopefully she will like it

You were busy last month. Love the quilts you sent home with your friend to Denmark (sorry, trying to catch up on blog reading, so, commenting on several posts at once).
