Dust off a quilt book Blog hop Basket weave quilt

Dust off a quilt book blog hop

Are you having fun so far?

It’s the last day of the “dust off a quilt book” blog hop and I put my quilt on the last day 🙂

I had a lot of time to think about what book and pattern I should use and finally narrowed it down

I really don’t have THAT many quilt books, here’s it’s around half a shelf! BUT most of them I’ve just collected or maybe just made ONE thing from the book.

So I was determined to sort which books I hadn’t touched at all (well other than to look in them)

(sorry the picture of it is so grainy, I thought I could just back up on google pics and then save to my computer, not thinking that the resolution is bad!) anyways, it’s a quilt collection book!

So I looked thru it and took some pics

I really liked all of them, but then it came down to yardage!

I looked at this basket weave quilt and then I decided to make the quilt smaller and use a jelly roll!

I had this floral rainbow strip set from connecting threads and I thought that would be a cute basket weave quilt! it did have a few white floral strips but I took those out and instead the vertical “weaves” would just be solid white strips from yardage.

I first sewed the strips together into sets of 3 in the rainbow color way, well way rainbow way 🙂

I cut and calculated where to add white strips as the weaving and here’s the top!

It now measures about 60″ x 46″ I think

I decided to quilt it with a clamshell template on the long arm.

 Here’s a close up

and here’s the finished quilt

Because it was wider than 40″ I used yardage but added this teal to make it longer and then in between to make it wider

I had a few of the rainbow strips leftover after I trimmed them so I made this little table topper from those scraps

I used a template too for this one but I forgot the name of it

here’s a close up of it

and here’s the back of it.
You might notice the binding is two prints, I used some of the “rejected” 2 1/2″ strips from the quilt and used those for the binding instead.

I love bright colors! so festive!!

That is a pretty pattern and it turned out to be a great quilt. I haven't used rainbow colorways in a quilt and I think I should because they turn out so nice. Love the quilting design on the mini quilt.
