Dust off a quilt book blog hop day #5

It’s day #5 of this fun blog hop!

Now this was the original quilt I had in mind for the hop and the top was finished when I realized I had to make another project for the other hop that overlapped, but that’s ok, I love both projects!

Here’s the book I picked for my project, it’s called Blended quilt backgrounds and I don’t think I’ve ever made anything from the book before, don’t remember when I got it, so it was time to use it!

I found this neat quilt called Curtain call and once I stared at it, I knew I could use Accuquilt QUBE dies (and the companion set) for the quilt, then I matched up the yardage with colors of yardage I had on the shelf and in EQ the whole thing morphed into this blue and grey and black version!

I really had a lot of fun making these odd blocks, the blocks were 9″ so I used both the 9″ qube and the 6″ qube sets!

As the quilt came together the secondary flowy pattern really started to show!

It ended up being 50″ x 68″

I quilted it using “triangle maze” and made it pretty big which was still rather dense on the quilt.

The thread color was turquoise

I pieced the back from turquoise and some black and white yardage I had leftover

A fun quilt to make!!

What a stunning quilt! Great color selection and such a perfect finished size!

  2. What a great quilt, Bea!! I’m sorry I missed the hop this year. I enjoyed the first one I did with you. This quilt reminds me a little of Storm at Sea blocks. I just bought that BOB but have yet to use it. I love using my Qubes for everything I can!! It sure saves wear and tear on my cutting arm! LOL

  3. Wow …that turned out gorgeous….
Had to laugh when I saw the page in the book and the notes you made…and then the copy of the page you made for more notes.
I swear…. home copy machines are a quilters blessing. They might not be number 1 but they rank in the top 10 in my book.

Great quilt and I love the secondary pattern. Love the quilting pattern, too on this. Great hop – thanks for hosting!

  5. This is such a neat design. It’s a great quilt in every way. Thank you for hosting the hop. It was a lot of fun to participate again!

  6. Durn, I just missed this hop but I’ve bookmarked so I can visit everyone.

I have been listing my quilt books for sale on ebay. My tastes have changed and I just have so – many – books, purchasing them at thrift. If I were going to launch into a quilt project from start to finish, I would use a pattern from Modern Scot Patchwork, bold quilts inspired by iconic tartans.
