Dust off a quilt book AND Vincent’s garden blog hop day 3

So it’s rare that I over commit on blog hops, but this was for a former fellow Island Batik Ambassador and I signed up in the fall, then in January I scheduled my blog hop and then she scheduled hers too on the same week, but that’s ok! I could have just combined hers into mine but I already made my project for my blog hop, so I’m on the list twice 🙂

My blog hop is to dust off an old quilt book and make something

Karen’s hop is “Vincent’s Garden Pre-cuts” blog hop with Island Batik! (Karen is The Quilt rambler) Karen and I actually met a few years ago, she came to NC and came for a visit! (Check out her link for a giveaway too!)

I got my strips around Christmas time and it’s so hard to NOT touch or cut into new fabrics isn’t it??

I got strips as my precut and since I was combining it with my blog hop I found this “Big book” of strip quilts and started looking thru it.

I found this Snowball Explosion and thought I could make a mini version of it.

I started making blocks like this

and added the black corners and also started the borders

Here’s the middle of the quilt, just a 3×3 layout

and borders added it ended up being 30″ x 30″

And here it is all quilted and bound in black also, I used “Aimee’s Flourish” as a quilt design rather dense/small.

Thanks Karen and Island Batik for sending me these fabrics to play with, I miss being an ambassador for them, so it was kind of nostalgic playing with their batiks again 🙂

  1. Your quilt is fantastic–great combination of the fabric and pattern choice!

  2. Anita L Jackson

It’s always great to combine those commitments together and come up with something fabulous. I love the Dust off and Old Book…. but more secretly….i love collecting those old books 😉

  3. The snowball quilt was perfect for using Vincents Garden fabric! It really shows them off so well. Great job getting 2 challenges conquered with one project…my kind of gal!

  4. Good morning! What a lovely quilt showcasing these gorgeous fabrics. Serendipity worked in your favor – I think it was in His plans all along – to have these blog hops coincide. Gosh, those snowball blocks look so pretty surrounded by the black background. Like little jewel pebbles that you want to pick up because they are shining so nicely, just calling out to you. The Island Batik fabrics are fab as is the “old” book you chose. Although ‘old’ is a relative word since it was definitely printed in my lifetime and I’m not old. Yet. HAHA! ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Good idea to “dust off an old quilt book”–I have lots!! Your quilt is great–would work for a guy I think.

  6. Kathleen McCormick

Nice way to combine both blog hops. I love that little quilt and the black background is fabulous.

  7. A great quilt for both hops. It’s so fun to see what one can do with strips. It’s a beauty, Bea.

  8. Your quilt came out great! I love those “Big Book of…” books, and often turn to mine when I need an idea or have a specific precut and want to get started.

  9. This is a really pretty pattern and looks wonderful in those fabrics. I think it is fabulous that you were able to combine hops for the same project and even more fabulous that you managed to make two quilts for the Dust Off an Old Quilt Book blog hop.

  10. Cathy calloway

The black background really sets off these beautiful batiks. Nice job!

  11. Diantha Howard

Your quilt looks great! The black sets off these vibrant colors so well.

  12. ROCHELLE SUMMERS

Yes, I’ve done that quilt. If not from that book then from another. Only I made it bigger. I think you had a beautiful palette of fabric to choose from. A gorgeous finished project with that beautiful quilting.
