I’m flat out of space on my shelves and out of batting, so I figured I needed to “clean out” some stuff
Back in May, my neighbor lost her husband rather quickly, he was a week in hospice and due to covid only had a funeral for family members, instead of flowers they suggested to donate to the local Hospice!
Ever since then it’s been in the back of my mind and I finally reached out to them and I was floored when they say they give away about 30 a month! They give one to each patient and then when they pass, the family gets the quilt!
So I got some quilts together and donated 20 quilts! (2 are not in the picture)
They didn’t really have a size requirement, some of mine were down to 35″, I’ll wait to hear feedback, but it sounds like they were happy with anything. It’s sad to know someone dies there daily!
so, if you have quilts just lying around and don’t know what to do with them, reach out to your local hospice and see if they’ll accept donations!
I give some baby quilts to a pregnancy support center but they have enough- maybe there’s another around who’ll take them.
I also have one of my 50 states quilts that I promised to the local VFW, I just haven’t met up with them yet.
It felt good to give and also again breaks my heart because it’s hospice and people die, but that’s life, we all have 100% chance of dying at some point!
It is so nice that the quilts will be loved. We had a close family friend who was in hospice and before she went in I was able to get one on her bed. It was well appreciated by all and the children are very happy to have it as something that comforted their mom at the end of her life.
