Did you see Accuquilt’s blog post with this cute Gnome pillow I made for 4th of July
This whole project started after seeing this little guy at the mall! It’s crazy how gnomes are everywhere now, I’ve seen an Easter gnome too now a patriotic one! So I took the picture and emailed Accuquilt and asked if they needed a project or a blog post with a patriotic gnome!?
They said they’d love a blog post, my original idea was a mug rug but I had imagined a gnome next to USA but I wasn’t sure how big it would be.
I got out the GNOME die
and the serendipity die set where I used the star die
(btw I think they have a sale going on that’s ending today on dies)
and then a bunch of red, white and blue scraps!
I picked my fabrics and cut them to size of the die shapes and added heat n bond lite onto the back of each shape
and cut everything out
Then the fun started! I had cut out 3 gnomes “just in case”, I knew I wanted at least 2 and it was just easier to cut out at one time than be missing one and have to cut out more later.
I realized at this point that it would be HUGE, it was supposed to be a mug rug but these letters and gnomes were 12″ wide, so I decided to make a pillow instead!
I had a pillow shape that was 13″ so that seemed to be perfect for this, I cut out a light blue 13 1/2″ square and added the letters and gnomes and cut out 2 stars and added to the top empty space
I did a simple applique stitch by sewing straight lines twice around each shape, deliberately being a bit sloppy so it looks like a sketch line!
Then I finished the pillow and I think it turned out really cute!!
We’re going to the mountains for a few days on 4th of July next week, it should be fun! How about you?? Got any plans?
I love my gnome die and this is so cute!!! I also love the sketched look of the applique stitch – easy and fun!
