I finally got around to picking a winner from the giveaway here
#30 was Judy, she is a NEW quilter and already got the BUG!! so this is great for her to get her feet wet and start designing. I already emailed her and got her address.
Here’s some Bali baskets I made over the weekend. (well one of them for now)
I had some leftover scraps from the Benartex quilt top, only a few tiny scraps that I really can’t use it for anything else.
I grouped 3 fabrics together, some were just around 5″ long
I then free cut strips around 1″ or a little wider, it doesn’t really matter
Here’s hte cording! I bought it from fabric.com but just now ordered thru amazon.
it’s called SIZE 2, or 1/4″ or 8/32″
so here’s all the strips ready to use in order
I first wrapped the black around the edge by folding under the edge
and then wrapped around – I think that’s clockwise, whatever works for you!
If you want a circular basket, the beginning is really the MOST tricky!
I folded over the tip and little and used a large zig zag and stitching a little bit, raised the presser foot and turned it around, that’s kind of hard if there’s only a little bit to touch, but after that it’s SO easy
so here I kept going around clockwise
and I wrapped the cording as I sewed, one little strip at a time, and it’s fun when you change the color!
Kept going around flat until it was a size I liked
THEN I held up the side with my left hand and kept sewing, eventually the basket will start forming
see!?
at the very end I wrapped the end of the fabric just like in the beginning, here the fabric dictated when the basket had to stop do I cut the cording with about 1 1/2″ left of the fabric so I’d have enough to wrap around
then I held it really close to the edge and zig zagged into the prev row and backtracked a little too
voila! it’s done
here’s 3 of them, used all the scraps!
I finished the four patches for Bonnie Hunter’s easy street and did the little pinwheel trick on the back before ironing, it’s was a bit tricky at first, but with 192 of them I figured it out quickly 🙂
I’m guessing that 4 is used in each block so that’s 48 blocks so either a 6 x 8 layout or a 7 x 7 layout with the center block different.
here they are ready to be ironed.
Today I finished a customer’s quilt, this is one of her first quilts!! very NICE
a fun batik quilt with small colored bars, I did a swirly design in the large blocks and corner to corner curve on the bars
here’s the back

Congratulations to Judy. Your baskets are beautiful. And, I'm very impressed how much you accomplished in 2012 – and the year isn't over. I think you've inspired me to really try to have such a list for 2013. Great way to stay focused.SewCalGalwww.sewcalgal.blogspot.com
