Christmas then and now Blog hop

Are you thinking Christmas in July?

Christmas in July is always fun to think about. I know that DOWN under it’s Hot in December and even when I lived in FL it was pretty warm in December, but the colored lights and bows on the palm trees just doesn’t do it for me, it was fun as a tourist to say “Hey I jumped in the pool on Christmas” but once you live there, you want the cold and SNOW!

It’s been pretty hot here in NC, so not at all in the mood to make Christmas presents or even THINK about Christmas, and actually I don’t have many Christmas fabrics at all, so it became a bit of a challenge.

But I just realized we could show older Christmas projects too, so here it goes! (and there’s still something NEW at the bottom)

I’m going backwards in blog post dates 🙂

In May during the quarantine I was “cleaning out” my old fabrics and was determined to use up old stuff and I had some jelly rolls around never opened, one was a Christmas quilt here

Of course I made a Christmas quilt!

and last year before Christmas I made this table runner using my Duck Duck Goose pattern and Christmas scraps and gave it to a friend

I also made this one

Batik Christmas Table Runner

and before the Accuquilt Christmas stocking was released I made these for them, then FedEx lost the package and they remade some in-house for pictures

Crazy patch Christmas Stockings with Accuquilt

I also made this table runner last fall with leftover batiks from Island Batik

Here’s another table topper

and in July 2018 Carol also hosted a Christmas in July Hop and I made this (forgot I had these embroidery files)

another table topper

and here’s another machine embroidered Christmas quilt– I still have this one

I also did this for a blog hop- your favorite Christmas Carol, the pattern I have listed in my shop

in 2014 I made this dress for Sonja- oh those fabrics!

2014-12-03 003

in 2012 I made this needle turn appliqued poinsettia wall hanging– still have this one and try to hang it up every year

And I made some potholders one year

and these

I’ve also made many ornaments over the years

Or this braided star ornament

of course I also make Christmas pincushions

Cookie Exchange Blog hop and giveaway!

with this blog hop hosted by Just let me quilt, I had to do something NEW also!

I found a charm pack from Connecting threads that has Christmas fabrics so first I sorted then and picked out 4 in blues and cut 3-1″ strips from each

I sewed these together like this so it was 5″ x 6 1/2″

Then I just tried something and lined up my ruler on the bottom right but at an angle and the top right corner was 3 1/2″, then I cut that off.

I then cut 2-1 3/4″ strips like that

and sewed them together like this

I trimmed it down to 3 1/2″ x 6″ I believe and quilted it onto a scrap piece of batting then also cut out a backing pieces

I filled it with crushed walnut shells and I think it turned out cute!

so why not make another one in more traditional Christmas fabrics?!

I like that one too!

They are the same but different fabrics!

I have a few extra charms left and have decided to give one of the pincushions away! (including matching charms)

All you have to do is fill out the rafflecopter below and answer which color you like best and then there’s other bonus options too.

Here’s more Christmas inspiration!

  1. I like the snowman the best. It’s so bright and cheery, maybe with the face peeking out, lol.

  2. Pamela Richards

Your quilts are amazing – love that you do machine embroidery as well. I have a “couple” of embroidery machines — I really like the Blue one with the Snowmen!! Thanks for sharing

  3. Janice Snell

I would honestly be thrilled with either pincushion. Although winter lasts longer around here. Thank you for the Christmas quilt show. A fun start to a hot July day.

  4. Carol Kussart

You have many neat projects! I have enjoyed seeing all of them. I like the blue pincushion better but both are cute. Thanks for sharing what you have done through the years!

  5. Thanks for sharing your amazing projects. I love pin cushions and really like the Winter one you made.

  6. Darlene Hoctor

Great pincushions. Our quilt guild is having a Christmas pincushion exchange this year. I should make it now and not procrastinate until the last minute. Not sure if we will be meeting though. We have been meeting outdoors in a parking lot this summer. Oh this virus. Thanks again. Merry Christmas.

  7. Deck the halls it is at your house. Fun projects! I’m with you about snow and Christmas! LOL!!

  8. Kathleen McCormick

You sure have a lot of Christmas projects. I don’t expect I will make many, until it is time for my son and nieces/nephews to want some things for their houses. My favorite color is bue.

  9. You’ve made some beautiful Christmas projects over the years, actually a lot of them. Wow! Your sweet little pincushions are adorable and that’s a great tutorial you shared. It’s always a treat to have you in my blog hops…thank you for sharing your then and now projects!

  10. Lori Smanski

    I love the winter pincushion.
All your projects are just wonderful. Your daughter was so adorable then. And this dress is too cute. I love those owls.
Thank you for sharing and inspiring today

  11. I so love your blue pincushion. What a selection of Christmas quilts you have. And the sweet little Sonja with the fun dress. Love your post.

  12. You have made so many fun Christmas things! I enjoyed seeing them all. Your daughter’s dress is especially adorable! Thanks for the giveaway – I like the blue pincushion!

  13. I’m partial to the traditional fabric pincushion. I don’t own a Christmas pincushion! It would be fun to have.
You have done some amazing projects. Wonderful!

  14. Hi Bea! What a fun photo-filled post. Sonja looks so little and adorable in her dress. I just want to scoop her up! I think your Christmas version of the pincushion is fab (so is the winter one!). I can see you keep yourself very busy with all these different projects. Considering you led off with not having any Christmas fabrics you were able to share a lot of fun different ones. Each one is cuter than the next. ~smile~ Roseanne

  15. Sherry Stevens

So many wonderful projects. I think I like the winter pincushion best.

  16. The pincushions are so cute but I am fond of snowmen so would love the blue pincushion!

  19. Thank you for sharing so many lovely projects. I really like the blue pincushion

  20. Wow – for saying you don’t have much in the way of Christmas fabrics you’ve made some amazing things! Thank you for the lovely visit.

  21. I like the winter pincushion. Wow you have a lot of cool projects. It is hard to choose a favorite.

  22. Thanks for all the Christmas inspiration. I liked seeing some old favorites, and some I’d missed along the way. I kept wondering about your new project, “What’s that going to be???” I love that it’s a pincushion, and both are cute, but I think the winter one would be my favorite to have. Thanks for the chance to win one.

  23. Loved seeing your Christmas projects through the years, Bea! Thanks for sharing and the opportunity to win. I love both pincushions, but am a little partial to the blue one!

  24. Sharon Aurora

So many wonderful projects! The ornaments really caught my eye. The pincushions are cute too. My favorite is the blue one.

  25. You had a lot of Christmas projects. All so pretty, especially the poinsettia wallhanging. Sonja dress is just darling. I love the stockings. The fur cuffs are awesome.

  29. I liked all of your projects, but the one that sticks in my mind is still the first one you showed at top of page. The use of fabric was extraordinary and I love it.

  30. Thanks for sharing your sweet Christmas projects. And thanks for the including the steps you took to make those cute pin cushions. I really like the blue and white one. I have some leftover Christmas fabrics from my project – what a good idea for making a pin cushion for the season too!

  31. Thank you Bea for sharing so many sweet Christmas projects. I’ve added a few ideas to my Must Make List. Thank you. Your Gingerbread Man pincushion is just the cutest. Love those last pin cushions but the blue is my favourite!

  32. Hmmm… I would be so pleased to win either f the two color combo pincushions. Thank you for the opportunity.
