Christmas Carols Row Along

Hi everyone, it’s my day to show my version of Christmas Carols Row Along

Thanks to Marian for coordinating this, it’s a LOT of work!! it’s been planned months in advance and then having to coordinate who goes when, get pictures and sponsors (we got some free fabrics from Northcott! to work with!) and schedules right, a LOT of work!

CCLogo-2

When I was asked to (re) join the row along I quickly picked a Christian Christmas song!

I picked “Away in a manger”

A while ago I designed this manger scene in EQ with a tutorial (and part of a round robin)

The nativity scene is all foundation pieced

DSCF8548

Then I added the star blocks and edge HSTs

DSCF8549

plus angel and diamond(mountain?) blocks

DSCF8552

and “Jesus” is also foundation pieced

DSCF8553DSCF8554DSCF8555

Here’s the row all done and quilted

DSCF8847

and here’s some close ups of the quilting

DSCF8848DSCF8849

I decided to hang it above my design wall as I have a bump of a slanted ceiling

You can find the pattern here

I wanted to provide a pattern that you add or subtract from or just use parts of the row for other projects if you like…

  1. my favorite gift…hard to choose. Loved the blow dryer that I got when I was 16. Loved my light blue bicycle at 14. Loved my skateboard at 12. :D. Loved a little black and white purse when I was 5. OH, I guess I do have one, When I was 6 or 7, I loved the pot and pan set with the tiny jargons lotion inside. Mom and I cooked fudge and poured it into my pans. This was a special gift. :-). Love your row too!

  2. Hi, I love your row as Jesus is the reason for the season which so many forget. I was unable to dowload the pattern. It said it was in the wrong format. I do not know what that means. Please send it to me via email.(robinsbusiness@hotmail.com) Thanks.

  3. Cynthia Woodham

A beautiful row. My favourite gift as a child was this large book of fairy tales.

  4. Ok, I'm feeling like a dork now.. Until you said those were mountains, I always thought they were angels… Doncha think they look a little bit like angels? 🙂 I love this row, and I love that you can change it up.. Wonderful Bea, thank you.My favorite gift… a new flute

  5. My favorite Christmas present was a beautiful artist's easel from my father. I didn't even know he noticed my artwork so it had great meaning to me. I still have it.

  6. Unfortunately as a child of a single parent with three kids,we never received Christmas gifts

  7. Excellent patterns! My favorites are Good Morning, Night Sky, and Rainbow Nine Patch.

  8. Awesome job on your row, Bea.My favorite gift was a doll that walked. I kept her for a long time. Thank you for the giveaway and for sharing your row.

  9. Your patterns are awesome. I would choose BL102 Rainbow 9 Patch, BL103 Embroidery Frames, BL11 Christmas Kaleidoscope Table Runner

  10. My Favorite Christmas present would be my art supplies each year! My parents always gave me a new supply so that I could try a new technique.

  11. Linda Williamson

Your Away in the Manger row is beautiful. I love paper piecing, it's so much fun. Thanks for sharing this block. grinnie1961 at gmail dot com

  12. I love your row. Was unable to download. Say there is a problem. Will keep trying.

  13. Linda Williamson

One year we received mini bikes for Christmas. Boy were those things so much fun to ride. We actually got them outlawed in my Aunts private mountain neighborhood which I now live in. Ha jokes on me. Thanks for the giveaway. grinnie1961 at gmail dot com

  14. Linda Williamson

I enjoy a good rainbow quilt, so Trip Around the Rainbow; my favorite is foundation paper piecing, Birds of a Feather; and last Night Sky because in need to learn how to do circles. Thanks again, grinnie1961 at gmail dot com

  15. I do not have a Christmas gift that stands out for me. (My birthday is a few days later so Christmas and my birthday celebration were more low key.) For me the best part of Christmas as a child was the excitement I felt upon waking up knowing it was Christmas morning!

  16. My husband gave me a kindel for Christmas a couple of years ago, and I have been so happy with it! Before that it would have to been the clock that my mother gave me when I was 16. I have not seen one like it since. Molded yellow plastic in that hip 70's style. I thought that I was right uptown with it.

  17. My favorite gift for Christmas was a camera. I took tons of pictures with that black box, but my love of photography was born!!

  18. Margaret Handlin

Love your nativity scene pattern I think a bike was my favorite Christmas present. Thank you

  19. Very beautiful patterns!! I liked your Christmas Kaleidoscope table runner; Rainbow nine patch; and It's a Compliment.

  20. My favorite Christmas present was a Baby Nancy doll with high chair. My sister and I are twins so my parents brought us a second Baby Nancy doll each so that we could have twins also. We still have the dolls.

  21. If I won I would selectBirds of a feather quilt pattern Trip around the rainbow quilt Boxes! Thanks

  22. What a beautiful row. THank you for the free paper piece pattern along with all the other aspects of the row. So lovely.

  23. The one gift I really remember now didn't seem like much at the time to a grade school kid. It was a heavy flannel hand tied blanket quilt that I ended up using everywhere. I remember it spread out on the back lawn and my best friend and I laying on it while playing Barbies. At age 62 this is the gift that has the most memories attached so although it was not favorite at the time it is the favorite now. Believe it or not, I still have the blanket that my Mom lovingly made in her limited amount of time.

  24. Brandy Pettit

Cute row idea! I really like the angel/mountain part. My favorite gift received was the sweatpants my grandma would make for us. I'm still working on wearing out the heels in one pair!~Brandy

  25. My favorite 3 patterns are Nightime by the River, Christmas Kaleidoscop, and You're Berry Sweet. Thanks so much for the beautiful row along pattern!

  26. What a lovely pattern. Thank you for sharing. I love all holiday patterns but they are often not religious in nature so this one is a special treat.

  27. My favorite Christmas gift was my first purse-a little brown one that I carried everywhere. It must have been the start of my passion for fun handbags!

  28. Charlotte Behrens

My fav Christmas gift was a chemistry kit. It was years ago when they packed them with real chemicals that my father and I could do experiments with. From a young age I was a science geek and wondered what and why a lot.

  29. Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

Yes, Jesus is the reason for the season. Love the nativity pattern. The link to your craftsy store comes up with a 404 error. I tried twice. I think the best Christmas present will be this year, since all of hubby's family will all be together, for the first time, to celebrate my FIL's 80th birthday. Family is the best present for me.

  30. A child-size kitchen. It was pink. It had a sink, fake oven, fridge and a cabinet. Thank you for the lovely block!

  31. That is beautiful Bea. I suppose my favorite gift was a bride doll when I was 8.

  32. Lets see, favorite gift as a child …. there are two that come to mind 1) a book shaped jewelry box that my grandmother gave me when I was about 6 and the other is a bowling ball I got when I was about 10.

  33. Lovely row Bea! We didn't get large presents at Christmas – we did get stockings filled with candy and small gifts (yup socks!! ) and lots of crayons and coloring books. Barbie doll clothes were my fav present!

  34. I like your Christmas Kaleidoscope, Starlight Starbright and the Rainbow 9 patch

  35. Susan-Sharon Passmore

Beautiful row! I love how you combined all of the elements to depict your Christmas carol. (sharonthemagnificent@yahoo.com)

  36. Susan-Sharon Passmore

My favorite gift as a child was a creepy crawlers set. It came with plastic goop that you could use to make spiders, scorpions, and other creepy crawly things.

  37. Susan-Sharon Passmore

Love your patterns on Craftsy! My three favorites are BL119, BL128, and BL135.

  38. I remember being over the moon when I got new Barbie, Ken and Midge dolls.

  39. All the rows so far are fabulous. Thank you for making your adaptable. You did a really nice job.

  40. Lovely patterns: I would choose When Pigs Fly, What a Hoot, and Nighttime by the River. Thank you for being so generous.

  41. I love your theme! Just perfect for Christmas celebrating the birth of Jesus!

  42. My favorite Christmas gift as a chile was a "bride doll" I got when in 2nd grade. I just wanted a doll all dressed up in a bride's dress, and Santa brought her. She was beautiful and lasted for many years.

  43. Wow, I really love what you did. So much of Christmas gets tied up in Santa and snowmen and such. Such a lovely piece that really shows the meaning of Christmas!Thunderfan@protonmail.com

  44. I like your Christmas wall hanging…reminds us of the reason for the season! Thanks

  45. My favorite Christmas gift was always a doll…every year I asked for a different one, and Santa generously complied…first it was a baby doll, then miniature dolls, then Barbie (of course!!) and a Mary Poppins doll.. I think after that I was too old for dolls..but I still love them. My mom is downsizing and just gave me her doll from when she was little girl back in the 30's…she said "This was a very loved doll, the only one I ever got".. She now has a very special place on my shelf…Thanks for sharing the nice giveaway!

  46. Thanks so much for being part of the Christmas Carol QAL!! Your block is great, and I LOVE paper piecing!! Thanks, too, for the great giveaway!! Vivian wvoaks at comcast dot net

  47. I love this pattern. I will use the nativity scene as a mini quilt to display on a stand at Christmas. Thank you

  48. For a chance at the batik rolls – I think my favorite Christmas gift was a Chatty Cathy. She didn't last very long – all that pulling the string to play a saying on the little record that was inserted in her side caused the string to break prematurely. She was great while she lasted!!

  49. My best Christmas present was about 35 years ago when my husband bought me a sewing machine and I've still got it

  50. Best Christmas present….our first trip to the Caribbean so we could get away from the cold.

  51. If I was blessed enough to win the 3 pdf patterns, I'd choose starlight starbright; Garden of Eden and Boxed In. Thanks for the chance to win!!!!! Vivian wvoaks at comcast dot net

  52. rosemaryschild

Love your row! The fabrics and scene are just beautiful! Thank you for sharing, Susan

  53. I remember getting lots of Barbie dolls and things to go with them. My sisters and I loved that.

  54. rosemaryschild

One Christmas when I was Very young, I got a cowboy hat, toy guns & holster-I was so happy! Thank you, Susan

  55. rosemaryschild

Genesis 9:16 Rainbow Quilt, Rainbow Nine Patch, Garden of Eden Quilt Thank you, Susan

  56. Angie&Gary Short

My favorite Christmas present was the Fisher Price little people and a house for them. When I got older it was Barbie's!

  57. Away in the Manger us one of my favorites too. Thanks so much for the block.

  58. My favorite gift, as a child, was a big baby doll. I still have her and another which I gave a small haircut. My grand kids have all played with her. I still have all the clothes that my mother, a wonderful seamstress, made for her in a little suit case that I had as a child. I am now fixing to be 67 years young on Oct 4.

  59. I actually have 2 favorite gifts — one when I was 8 and one the 1st Christmas after I was married. Christmas was always at my grandparents home in southern Illinois. Besides all my family being there, my aunt and uncle and 3 cousins always came from near Mobile, AL. When the AL family arrived, my aunt told me that Peyton, who was 4, had gotten his favorite toy out of his toy box and wrapped it for my husband and me. So when we were opening gifts, and it was our turn to open Peyton's gift, Peyton stood right at my knees and watched. Well, what he had so proudly and lovingly wrapped was a broken clock. We thanked him, and in his sweet southern accent he said, "I knew you'd like it." We have now been married 55 years. There are only a handful of Christmas gifts that I even remember, but Peyton's gift is by far the most precious gift I have ever received. Nancy A: rangerer@sbcglobal.net

  60. Kathleen Trail

I don't recall a favorite gift I received, I was always more concerned about the gifts I was giving and how much my family would like them!

  61. Kathleen Trail

I love your Christmas Kaleidoscope pattern, also the Patriotic Mug Rug and Night Sky! Super cute stuff!

  62. I like Underwater Stars, Mother of Pearl, and Night Time by the River. Thanks!

  63. Denise Pierce

Favorite – two choices, microscope and my Barbie doll convertible car.

  64. My favorite Christmas gift was a gift for the whole family. My dad kept saying it was a monkey dog. It was a squirrel monkey and he was so cute. We named him Mickey.

  65. Karen McMahon

My favorite Christmas present was my Tiny Swingy doll. She danced along with a 45 record!

  66. I love Nightime by the River , Night Sky, and Underwater Stars. Thanks so much for sharing Bea

  67. Let's fly, Under Water Stars, and Boxed In are my pattern choices. It was hard to choose just 3. Thank you for sharing.

  68. My favorite gift was a spiral graph. I had want it for years before I finally got one.

  69. Seacoast Quilter

I remember a year that my sister and I both got alarm clock radios for our main Christmas gift. I went to sleep with the radio on from that point forward, from around 12.

  70. Thank you for this lovely spiritual row! The meaning of the season. Thanks to the Fat Quarter shop and to you for the Island Batik and the pattern giveaways. I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be three separate comments, so I'm leaving it all in one. I don't remember very many Christmases from when I was young, because of trauma when I was ten, but I remember my two favorite Christmases of all time. One was the year my husband gave me the hope chest I couldn't afford when I was in high school, and one was the year he gave me my complete HO train set and all the buildings to make a town. =) The three patterns I would want if I won are Nighttime by the River, Garden of Eden, and You're Berry Sweet. Such lovely patterns! Thanks again. dezertsuz at gmail

  71. I think my favorite gift was the Malibu Barbie beach bus. We usually couldn't afford many gifts so I was very happy. Thanks!

  72. Your carol and block is my favorite so far. I prefer the religious Christmas carol over the secular ones.

  73. I don't remember what my favorite Christmas gift as a child. However, as a teenager, it was getting my very own violin.

  75. I just love your Manager Row. I will make a great gift and a wall hanger for me. Thank you for sharing.

  76. Every year we received books, which I always loved and looked forward to. In addition to those, the single gift I specifically loved was a baby doll made by Madame Alexander. I named him "Teddy" and he was my darling. 35 years later, I named my puppy "Teddy", and he was the only love that has come close. 🙂

  77. Your patterns are lovely–and so varied! I would choose Let's Fly, Shelves Full of Yarn, and Birds of a Feather. Thanks for the chance.

  78. Tu-Na Quilts

Love your reason for the season row! My favorite gift I received was a Beatles record. I played that album for years and recently passed it onto my son. He took one look and said, "That's not the Beatles" and handed it back. Sure enough upon closer inspection it wasn't. But when I was young it didn't matter. Only now it could have been worth a whole lot of money if it had been. Karen kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

  79. Tu-Na Quilts

Thank you Fat Quarter Shop for sponsoring this giveaway. I really like your row! Thanks for the pattern. Karen kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

  80. Tu-Na Quilts

Which patterns??? That was rather hard to decide. I'd like Boxed In, Starlight Starbright, and Shelves Full of Yarn, please. If I win. Thanks, Karen kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

  81. BarefootThunder

I like shelves full of yarn, birds of a feather, and Genesis 9:16 Rainbow Quilt Pattern. thanks, and Merry Christmas.

  82. BarefootThunder

I can't remember a favorite gift as a child, but as an adult it would be my singer featherweight, it was a very BIG surprise from my husband !!!

  83. I got a stuffed poodle dog. Still have him, but he is falling apart from old age, just like me!

  84. I loved my Barbie dolls as a kid and each year, my sister would make a shoebox full of new clothes for me to dress them in. They were so fancy and elegant and I played for hours with them!

  85. jay dahlgren

I wasn't able to download Craftsy, but I'm sure I would like any of your patterns. Jadahlgr at Yahoo dot Com

  86. Chelsea Spade

First I love your row! Lots of great pieces to use again and again! We always had puzzles for Christmas to work on over winter break. The patterns I would choose are Christmas Kaleidoscope, What a Hoot, and Shelves Full of Yarn

  87. Very sweet row and carol. Thanks for the inspiration. My favorite gift? My first sewing machine, age 6. It was a little Singer, with an actual bobbin, not just a chain stitch. I loved sewing with it.

  88. The gift I remember most was a nightgown and robe made by my aunt. She made one for me and my sisters each in a different color flannel.

  89. I LOVE your row! I collect nativities and have made several nativity wall hangings. Yours is beautiful! Thanks for sharing it!

  90. My favorite Christmas gift was probably my doll Mary who is a 20" doll–I got a case for her and her clothes too. My mom made several outfits for her. I never let my daughters play with her and now I'm deliberating about letting my granddaughters…

  91. Thanks for the beautiful nativity pattern! My favorite Christmas present was the Wurlitzer spinet piano I received when I was 8 years old. It has traveled many miles with me since then and is currently in my family room.

  92. Marti Morgan

My favorite was a white fur (fake) coat that I knew my parents couldn't afford because the little ones needed Santa gifts. It was $40, and it was from Winklemans. While I was fetching tonka trucks from the basement "Santa" put the Winkleman's box under the tree – what a surprise, it brought tears to my eyes.

  93. My favorite gift as a child was Patty Play Pal. I loved the she could walk with me. Patterns I would like, gosh so hard to choose, I'd rather have them be a surprise. Thanks

  94. Your nativity scene is fantastic! What a great row.I think my most memorable Christmas gift was a giant stocking that contained a dress, matching jewelry, and a warm winter coat. We were on a very tight budget, and family friends invited us to their home. We walked in and there were two of those stockings taking up the living room floor (they were as tall as we were at the time) for my sister and I. They spoiled my mom, too. I just remember those stockings, the beautiful clothes, my gratitude, and the warmth.

  95. Pam McDonald

I can remember getting a Micky Mouse watch for Christmas. I was so surprised, I still have that photo. Thank you for the giveaway!

  96. Pam McDonald

I would love to win the following three patterns from your Craftsy site. Thank you so much!BL135-What a HootBL119 – When Pigs FlyBL124 Patriotic StarsThank you again 🙂

  98. Thank you for this row. So wonderful to see a row that reminds us of why we celebrate Christmas.

  99. My favorite gift was a complete wardrobe (including a wedding dress and a going away suit) for my Toni doll. Mother sewed after we went to bed and it was a complete surprise (I had stopped believing in Santa a couple of years previous, so quietly went to Mother and thanked her).

  100. I am really enjoying this row along blog hop. Thanks! Please click on the delaineelliott above for my email link.

Hi Bea!!! I'm loving this row along. Your row is so nice. I got lots of great presents for Christmas growing up. My mom always knew what I was interested in and got me the best gifts. I got a microscope, a telescope, a camera, and, of course, a bike. These were all different years and always reflected what I was loving at that time. Thanks for having the giveaway(s). Those are some great prizes.pamspretties57 at gmail dot com

Hi Bea!!! I'm loving What a Hoot, Night Sky, and When Pigs Fly.Thanks for having the giveaway(s). Those are some great prizes.pamspretties57 at gmail dot com

  103. My fav. gift was a chemistry set in 3rd grade (1958)–they don't make them like that anymore. Made perfume, lotion, ink, paper, etc–so much fun!

  104. I love your Away in a Manger Quilt! It captures the magic of the story so well. My favorite gift as a child was a Barbie Dream House.

  105. I forgot to mention my favorite Christmas gift. Actually nothing actually sticks out in my mind as a child. About 5 yr ago I was in the hosp for a month in Sept and I did not realize how depressed I was being. My husband surprised me with tickets for a cruise 2 days after Christmas. My spirits soared. We hiked everywhere when off the ship. It was a short cruise but it did the trick.(robinsbusiness@hotmail.com)
