I finished this month’s color of the month blocks and I’m going to show them one by one with ideas instead of just doing one post at a time.
First up is the Chinese Lantern (made with the Chinese Lantern Accuquilt die!)
And the color of the month was Light Blue and bluish green or adding light green? not really sure, but I grabbed my light blue bin and under it was the teal/turquoise bin so I figured I’d use that too this month and try to make two blocks of each, if turquoise comes up in another month, I’ll use green or something else I guess.
So I made a light blue block
and a turquoise one, each block is 8″ Fin. so 8.5″ at this point
and here’s 6 blocks so far
My “rule” was solid black triangles on the sides (background)
and I forgot that one part of the diamond is supposed to “read” like a solid, I think some of the placements got swapped, but that’s ok.
Here’s some ideas from EQ
This one is very similar to the quilt I did for Accuquilt’s blog or maybe it was a pattern for them? there’s a 2″ sashing strip between each block and then a border, so the quilt would finish 36″ x 36″
or what if I use NO sashing and then a 4×5 layout, it would measure 41″ x 50″
Or what if I alternate the blocks with just plain black squares? still 41″ x 50″
a bigger version like this would measure 50″ x 68″
or how about an alternate block?
or the same block but with sashing again, which would make it 58″ x 80″
I like this layout better but then played with the alternate block and came up with this idea to still add some grey but then a simple square inside.
I like it, but the quilt would be big (or sort of big)
what do you think? which one do you like the best?
Wow. Beautiful love the different layouts and the colors.
Heavens I love them all.
I have been looking for ideas for a quilt for a friend and any of these ideas are on the top of my list.
Oh dear which one to do now is the problem???
Thanks for all the great ideas Kathleen MANOFF
Oh my gosh, you can’t make me choose one over another! LOL They are ALL fabulous, and I love that bloc. I’ve used light blues, more greens, turquoise, teal … it’ll all come out okay in the end but your blocks look great together in every single option.
Hello! Have you considered a half drop? This would put a rectangle instead of a full square between the lanterns and make them closer together. I didn’t know if you had a quilting plan for those large spaces, but I tend to avoid them. 😉 At any rate, I like these blocks! You really do have quite a few good options.
that’s a great idea!
