Canning Jar blocks

Ready for more inspiration?

The Canning Jar block is a fun rather new die by Accuquilt, the blocks finish 8″

And I made this quilt for them when the die was launched

fun blocks with selvedge edges!

Here I have a light blue one made

Then a “teal/turquoise” it’s a leftover batik scrap from Island Batik and some of these batiks were WILD and fun and so many colors, it was hard to put in a scrap bin because part of it was red another yellow, another turquoise.

Here’s 6 so far, the “rule” is to use this mottled beige for the background (I already put it all aside, I think it was 1-2yds), then the lid has to be brown and the main colors are sort of floral!

This is sort of the same layout as above but with a simple border and with random jars

Now color sorting the jars looks better

Then I removed the side sashing parts so it looks like the jars are on shelves! I like this a lot, wonder if I can find a nice woodsy print

Maybe something like this? the quilt would measure 33″ x 47″

Or maybe I should just use 9 jars and then omit the inner border then the quilt will be 30″ x 34″

We’ll see how many jars I end up with….

  1. I love jar quilts, but I’d need to have a club of friends to pool their money and dies and check them out like a library! A couple of guilds I’ve heard do that. I have a cutter a friend gave me when she got a bigger one, but the dies are so costly. Maybe some day. In the meantime. I’ll enjoy yours and keep making mine with a 30-year old pattern from a favorite quilt shop from way back then.
