bubblegum and EQ

Okay, so it’s not just BUBBLE gum, it’s the quilt Bubblegum dreams I’ve been working on! 🙂

Yesterday I finished the 2nd part of the blocks – the bubble gum wrappers…

Then I laid them all out on my table- instead of the design wall and started sewing them together.

here’s the main part of the quilt top done, without the border.

The picture showed a square quilt, I guess for a different size, so I was kind of surprised this was a rectangle, which of course I don’t mind.

The border will have LOTS of applique, so I’m waiting a little bit on that.

Then I started playing with EQ7 again.

for some reason at church today I started thinking about log cabin blocks

(Hey, I WAS still listening!)

I thought of an appliqued motif in the middle and then having the log cabins go around, so I found this cute butterfly block and I matched the colors to fabrics and added to the log cabins.

of course, I can’t just leave it at that, I had to play with the layout of the log cabins.

Here I just changed the center of the flower to a dark orange and then changed the outer border as well

now this is kind of cool!

But I liked this better!

Back to a different log cabin block and a focus block with candy canes

Oh, this is SO traditional!

I saw this cute space ship block too and oddly enough, the colors were the same as the butterfly block so I just had to plop it in the middle and take the colors from the log cabins and add them to the space ship, is it boyish enough?

the other day I started playing with animal blocks in EQ as well

I think I got inspired by that from the simple series in quiltmaker ( I think that’s the magazine, with just squares and HSTs to make cute animal layouts)

So I thought of an elephant.

a cute boyish quilt!

the giraffe block was very complex so I figured it needed to be BIG, I’m not really into the brown and yellow combination though, reminds me too much of growing up in the 80s 🙂

Then I found these penguin blocks, I actually really LIKE this layout.

How about a cute simple bunny? without being too much like easter!

and here’s a smaller version

My daughter then came in and was wearing this shirt that had a chick on it and read CHICKS rule!

so of course I had to copy that 🙂

This layout is better

I like to have little blocks in the corners and then I centered the text

here’s I added more of the “diamond” blocks and colored them differently and added an ! in front of the text

I also tried to create my own little chick.

When I got tired of the chicks, I searched for a bear block, there were so many, but then I figured I’d create my own again like the chick and of course use a bear claw block also.

I also added a “double diamond” block instead, don’t think that’s the name of it, but that’s what I’m calling it for now 🙂

  1. You have been very busy, wish I had that much done! Question- I know you have a Voyager, I am considering buying one, have you had any major issues, are they easy to repair, etc? Thanks for any advice. Marianne

  2. I really liked your last butterfly block and the penguins too. Nice work on the bubblegum quilt, I can't wait to see the applique!

  3. Cheryl Willis

the layout on the giraffe quilt looks like it could go with any style center applique. I will have to make a note of to and add to my TO DO list. The 9-patch, snowball and block for applique is another neat layout that I not thought of.Thanks for sharing. cw

  4. You spent a LOT of time making those EQ7 quilts! Good job! I need to work on playing in EQ myself. I got a Silhouette Cameo (vinyl cutter) and have been playing more with that lately! So fun!! But I love EQ too! How long did you work on all those quilts?

  5. Your Bubble Gum quilt is cute, looks like you are having lots of fun with EQ7 too! Thanks for sharing!Quilting at the River Linky Party Tuesday

I love your bubblegum quilt. Such happy colors. I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's finished. (I liked seeing your EQ play too!)

  7. Bea, I would love a link for Accuquilt and EQ.Also, I am interested in the pin cushion exchange… I just need to find a free pattern as I do not own one. When is the last day to sign up?Gwen
