I have shown you the box of chocolate blocks in previous posts and recently I got a PLAN for the blocks and now I’m working on them between other projects and they are coming along splendidly!
I have 56 of these blocks made with the 4″ QUBE
and I had suggested different layouts for them or to make the blocks bigger like this
I liked the white print background but didn’t LOVE it, so I went back into EQ and thought about making random star tips AND random backgrounds!
and I liked this A LOT!
For the outer part of the blocks I used the 8″ QUBE and dies #2, 4 & 5 and I cut scraps one scrap bin at a time, about 3 or 4 sets per bin I figured.
Then after a while I would pair up the background pieces with the star tip pieces and with the box blocks and pile them into a project bin
When I matching up all the blocks, I realized I had cut out WAY too many pieces! OOPSIE!!
so I put them in a box I have for extra 8″ QUBE cut pieces, now THAT bin is overflowing, so I need to come up with something for those pieces!
But that will be for another day!
Then the sewing began!
The way I often work with scrap blocks like this, is that I grab one little set, then here I would sew the first side of the star tips (flying geese blocks) with whatever other things I’m sewing, then get up and press, then when I sit back down, I’d grab another set and working on the first seams AND then finish the flying geese on the first set and whatever else, then press seams again, sit back and now work on 3 of these blocks at the same time and so on, it’s a bit tricky to keep track of but not bad at all and I usually work on several projects at the same time, just to add more confusion to everything!
Some of these blocks are really FUNKY but I like them, now I’m considering making it a pattern, since I changed the original blocks from a book SO much, would you be interested in that?
Absolutely love this. What would you suggest for the center if you only have the 8 inch qubes and companion? I have an abundance of scraps and this would be perfect. Thank you for all of your designs.

that cuts most of the pieces then rotary cut the rest 🙂
I like any block that can be scrappy and offer so many options. Go for it, Bea!
thanks!
