Bible BOW and customer quilt and phi beta kappa

This week’s women of the bible BOW is Tamar! I think I read this part ONCE before.

Now with Tamar, you get into a lot of geneology, I have read this over and over and still have to copy and paste it, because I just can’t remember who’s related to who.

Tamar was the daughter-in-law of Judah.

Her husband Judah, died and traditions back them had the younger brother marry her to have children and keep on his legacy, well the brother didn’t do his “job” on that part. long story short, she ends up deceiving her father in law, disguised as a prostitute and getting pregnant by him.

The block is a palm leaf and I made the block and it was PERFECT, then I realized I had printed the wrong size! so I reprinted it for an 8″ block and I mis-measured some of the orange strips to it was a squeaker having them fit, but they DO, don’t know about the bottom of the leaf if the seam allowance is enough, I’ll see when I sew it together- and don’t look at the edges!! oh well.

I chose a green fabric with white specks for the leaf color and I had a nice dark orange fabric for the background. Of course the leaf needed green and then orange was just a nice match.

I’ve also finished up a customer’s quilt, wonky log cabins in batiks.

it’s for her son who works as either a geologist or something like that, so she picked this curvy design to look sort of typography maps.

and he’s a skier, so she had this fun ski fabric for the backing

Now this is another “secret” project for “quilt it today” magazine, all I can say is that it has lots of circles!

Here’s Sonja bug:-) she likes it when I lift her up and say SUPER SONJA or SUPER BABY 🙂

My husband took these pics 🙂

Yesterday was hubby’s birthday AND another important day.

We went to UNC to see our “adopted” daughter Gwen, get accepted into PHI BETA KAPPA!!

Here’s the UNC speaker- forgot his name and title.

Here’s Gwen and us.

we met Gwen at UNC 3 years ago, when our church hosted a thanksgiving dinner there for the international students. Gwen is from Singapore, we sat at the same table and she was SO nice and great with our kids and a christian, so she asked about our church and we offered to pick her up on sundays to take her to church, even since then we’ve become really close and are sort of her host parents here in the US. She’s such a lovely young lady, a great role model to our kids too, very Blessed to have her in our lives!

  1. Some O.T. stories get pretty involved, don't they? : )Sonja is such a cutie!!How nice for both of you that you and Gwen found each other. As much as she contributes to your family, I'm sure she is grateful to have a "family" here.

  2. Mame Johnston

You know, of course, that Gwen came into your lives by God's choice. Nothing happens by chance…it's all in His plan. God bless you for caring for her. You are a special family full of love for others. I'm blessed to know you, Bea.

  3. I love the pic of the 2 of you. So cute. And having Gwen in your lives is definitely a very special thing.
