You all know I’m having a BLAST with my new embroidery machine!
And EQStitch!!
so I created this in EQStitch- the binkie was already there and I changed it into applique.
I embroidered it!
The directions below are for a bib I made after this Binkie one as I changed a few things on the 2nd one and like it better 🙂
Then I took one of her bibs and traced the general shape
I don’t like the blue bib’s size, so I made it longer and I also wanted to do something different at the top and make ties instead. Click here for the file.
Materials needed:
(2) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ fabrics
(2) 2 1/2″ x 16″ fabrics (roughly 16″ long)
Light weight interfacing
scrap batting
Iron light weight interfacing to the back of ONE 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ fabric
If you embroider something onto the front, so that first with whatever interfacing you need for that, I actually used tear away and THEN ironed regular fusible to the back after it was done, maybe that’s double work??
Trace out the BIB pattern onto the interfacing side, centering the embellishment from the front
Iron over one end of each of the 2 1/2″ strips and top stitch
Now Iron strips in half length wise and then again raw edges toward the middle and iron in half like a bias tape/binding strip
Pin thru the bib piece right on the line, starting and stopping the pin right on the corners to be visible on the front
Then lay batting, other piece of fabric on top and bib piece last right sides together
If you look at the FRONT of the bib piece you have to overlap the TIES a little bit over the pin
like this
Pin in place
Now flip it back over and pin thru all layers making sure to REMOVE the MARKING pins from the other side
Leave an opening at the bottom maybe 6″ wide.
I like to add two pins at my start and stop points as a reminder
Have the TIE ends hang out thru the hole
Now stitch ON the line all the way around remembering to leave the opening open 🙂
Now trim down to roughly 1/4″ all the way around, snipping corner and cutting out “V”s at the top curves and slits on the bottom curves.
It doesn’t have to be exact, it’s not rocket science! it’s JUST a bib, that’s going to get drool and food all over it get dirty in no time 🙂
Now turn right side out and iron flat and pin the bottom opening
Top stitch around and it’s DONE!!
Here’s the binkie one
I think Sonja likes it!
