I finally finished the Bear claw quilt that was part of the 2018 RSC by so scrappy, well I made up the block with GO dies, using the 8” QUBE set and dies #1,2 and 5 and two fabrics of each color per block, the blocks ended up being 6” finished, so it’s really a 3/4 sized block
I made 4 blocks in each color then arranged them in a rainbow way and did a 5×6 layout
I used a somewhat new template/ ruler for my long arm, as I don’t have a lot of practice with these, this one I thought was 6” but it was actually a bit shorter so I fudged it and then I did a rule of only doing the top row and the bottom row of each block and just did it across the whole quilt
The quilt measures 36” x 48”
After I had finished the top I found 4 more pink bear claw blocks, so then I figured I’d add them to the backing and I pieces it out of chunks that were sort of odd pieces or that I thought were “ugly” or didn’t go with anything right now.
It’s nice to make one of these “free” quilts out of scraps.
The binding was leftover black binding pieces, some were cotton, some were batiks, but you can’t tell
It looks good Bea. I am not sure if I have ever made a bear claw block. It doesn't look that difficult though.
I was just thinking how am I going to back my 2018 QAL. Great example!
I love that scrappy look! Wonderful!
I love to make "free" quilts to
Wow!
Fun quilt and the pink ones on the back are great. I love ruler work for the no marking approach to quilting!
