Be attitudes QAL BOM 1 Be warm

be attitutes 2015

Have any of you bought this pattern and want to sew along?

I know of ONE person who’s already done this Winking smile

I decided to try some fabrics that are totally different than the pattern, but I only had a FQ bundle, hopefully I’ll get most of the blocks done with it, otherwise I MAY just HAVE to buy some more (I’m keeping the selvages so I know what to look for later)- I did add a few of my own fabrics as blenders.

It’s Vintage Verona by Riley Blake (now I have THIS for reference too!)

I first traced out the pattern on Heat N Bond, including one part that said BUTTON, I won’t be using a button…

I then sewed the block background together- it took me a while to “plan” the fabric placements, but I like the result.

Then I found the other pieces for the applique and cut them out and placed on the block

Since this is more of a funky modern block I wanted the applique to be different as well and chose this dark blue thread for the stitches.

I chose to do raw edge applique with my embroidery/darning foot and did a free motion kind of sloppy line TWICE around each shape (I think it was Connie from Free motion that inspired me to do it originally the first time I tried this technique and LOVED it)

I didn’t care too much about perfect accuracy, that’s the whole point of this technique! to make it look like a doodled pencil line.

I actually liked to have more of the block in front of me so I had more to hold on to when I moved it around, so I wouldn’t stretch and skew the fabrics.

Here is the block all done, I LOVE it!

Love the stitching, it’s just FUN Smile I used a fabric marker for the eyes.

If you want to join this BOM, there’s still time, I’ll leave the linky up for a month until next Month on the 20th Smile

  1. Very cute and the colors are sure different and interesting. It will be fun to see how this one turns out.

  2. The raw edge applique looks perfect with the fabric you choose to make your block! I love it!

I do have that pattern Bea! Not sure I can squeeze it into the rotation this year though. I may go up and look at my stash to see how quickly I could jump in. Yours is AMAZING!!!

What a neat pattern and the fabrics you are using for it look great Bea! Love your "sloppy" stitching!

  5. I started this a few years back as a BOM. Maybe this year is time to remove it from the cupboard! Happy Stitching.

I do have this pattern and most of the fabrics used. I love your block. I am definitely going to get my out and started.
