It’s already been back to school here in NC for quite a while and my quilt for this blog hop really has nothing to do with schools but oh well!
-that’s what I get for starting it WAY early before I knew the theme! sorry
Anyways, my BIG bundle from the Spring Island Batik box is called Captain’s anchor and it’s a cool nautical themed bundle.
The first thing I made with the bundle was back in April when we all made a kennel quilt for Island Batik’s sales people and then later they will be donated!
Here’s my bundle and some yardage, ready to be cut into!
these were half yard cuts but I cut them into FQs
I played around in EQ and had a general idea of what I wanted, something like this using one of my QUBE sets from Accuquilt
I decided to use the 9” QUBE as I recently got it and haven’t used it much
Here I cut a bunch of large triangles, small triangles, rectangles and squares (since there was a red lobster print in the bundle I added some coordinating red too- and white)
I also had a matching yardage of this really dark blue where I cut out signature block pieces and small squares
then I started pairing up the fabrics
and added the rest of the shapes and the dark blue
and then began piecing everything together, first the large triangles!
(for some reason I had totally miscounted and cut out double the amounts of large triangles!!)
Here are some of the blocks all together, I made 10 of each
Then I laid them out on my design wall
and sewed the top together and added borders.
Finished size is 54 x 65”
and here it is all quilting and bound
I did a pointy swirl all over
I did a scrappy back, also so I could add my extra HSTs that I made too many of!

Now with the OOPS large triangles, I decided to sew them together into a table runner. I omitted the red blocks and now that I look back at the fabric collection it doesn’t have the red prints, so maybe I bundled them together wrong after washing my fabrics? another OOPS!
I quilted it in a swirly wave pattern in rows
BTW I made another OOPS, I cut out binding strips for this one TWICE!! ha ha, so now I have binding for another runner
I still had more scraps leftover!
I wanted to try this boat block by accuquilt, but their pattern uses mix and match dies and not the companion dies (or mostly triangles and squares) I modified my block and used rectangles and chisels too! and then added a larger rectangle on the sides to make two mug rugs!
These mug rugs I used a method of turning inside out and then quilting them, so there’s no binding on them
So even though I goofed up quite a few times with this bundle I made some neat projects!
(and I gave the other FQ bundle to a friend at church, who’s former Navy and him and his wife are both quilters! and it was close to his birthday and he just had a close friend pass away, so he needed something to cheer him up!! he loved it btw but wasn’t sure if he was going to share with his wife, ha ha)
Since I pretty much used every single scrap I instead have this 5” charm pack to giveaway (US only)

There are so many charm pack patterns that I love, I don't have a favorite! Your quilt and table runner are beautiful and the colors in Captain's Anchor are stunning.
I have so many favorites of charm packs, but i love batiks in any size or shape!
I love charm packs for large 4 patches or cut in 4ths for 16 patches.

I made X-Rated, several years ago. It's supposed to be a 31" square quilt, but, I added several more charm packs, and turned it into an almost full size quilt. Fun and fast. It would be fun to do that quilt again.

I like to make half-square and quarter-square triangles out of charm packs. No set pattern, I just play with them until I see a layout I like and then sew them all together.

Great use of the fabrics, all of them, and great projects. My favorite pattern, when I have multiple charm packs in the same collection, is Tossed 9 patch by Quilt In a Day.

your projects are just wonderful. I don't know that I have a favorite charm pattern. I am still trying to figure if I like precuts. When I wash them they are no longer the size they should be. Arggghhh

I love to use charms to make disappearing nine patch blocks. It's so quick to grab a charm pack and make a table runner that way.
