Autumn Appliqued Blog Hop Leaf guy

leaf applique hop

It’s day 1 of the Blog hop and I am going to show you how I created my little leaf guy for the button, he’s super simple!

First in EQ7search for a “LEAF” block

this one is called sycamore leaf.

add to sketchbook

image

It’s now under MOTIFs in the sketchbook

image

Click the EDIT button at the bottom of this box.

Select the leaf in the applique tab

image

Now click the FLIP button at the top.

image

Now draw a circle

image

Select it and copy/paste it or click the CLONE tool at the top

image

Move the second eye into place

do the same with the iris Smile

image

Now draw a triangle

If you hold down CTRL it will only turn in certain increments and be easier to get straight

image

Move into place.

Now Select ALL ( CTRL+A)

and copy it.

Click BLOCK>New Block> Easy draw+PatchDraw

image

Under the applique tab, PASTE your leaf guy

I shorted the top stem part a bit

image

You can also add eyebrows, by drawing a rectangle,  rotating it, then clone and mirror image it.

image

Under the color tab, you can color it and add to sketchbook

image

I kind of like the plan guy instead, this guy looks so sad Sad smile

image

Now you can also MERGE the blocks.

First add some FRAME type blocks to the sketchbook

When working on blocks, click

BLOCK>Serendipity>merge blocks

image

You can then play around with all the blocks you have in the sketchbook.

Don’t forget to add the new ones to the sketchbook too.

image

A fun quilt layout, though that’s a LOT of leaf appliqued blocks Smile

image

Or how about this one.

Same blocks, just an ON point layout instead

image

And with some fall fabrics

  1. Leaf guy is really cute! It gives me inspiration to make something similar and it would be wonderful to have an EQ! Thanks so much!

Wow, what a great tool for a visual person. I'm pretty new to quilting, and I think part of the problem is that I am daunted by not being able to visualize such "busy" projects, and I do not like ending up with thoughts of "oh, if I had only arranged them just a bit differently". I love what you did with your leaf guy. Great tut…thanks!

  3. Never would have thought of making an owl out of a leaf. You have quite the imagination.

  4. Vroomans' Quilts

Love your leaf guy! If you turn him upside down he looks like a goofy bird…..big eyes, feathers on top of his head and the stem is his beak. 😀 I noticed that with the on point layout. Thank you for sharing! anglanouette at gmail dot com

Wow Bea – I really learned a lot from your tutorial! I have an older version of EQ, and really haven't practiced with it much because I didn't feel comfortable with it. Your tutorials have really helped me get excited about learning how to use it. Of course, I'd love to have EQ7 with all the new bells and whistles :*D
