Another quilt done and a top done

I finished quilting and binding on the McCall’s quilt yesterday.

Again I can’t show much 🙁

remember how I did the feathers the wrong way on the bottom? well I started using “Jack the ripper” when I then decided to SKIN the quilt instead, so I got out my X-acto knife and carefully lifted up the top layer and with the knife pointing toward the batting slightly I started slicing the thread away, it really took no time at all. Just nerve wrecking dealing with a blade like that, but if it’s pointed down and the knife would slip a tiny bit, it would only damage or poke the batting and that’s easier to fix (if needed) rather than the top

so here’s part of the quilt border, feathers and bubbles.

The fabrics are “vintage baby” from Riley Blake, which they donated for this quilt. AWESOME!!

Today I also finished this fun little bright top, using a charm pack from moda which I won on the latest blog hop including a pattern booklet called 3 times the charm, I just changed the border.

I like charm, but I don’t like working with the zig zag edges, so unprecise, I never know where to sew the line, but I managed and you can’t tell now that it’s all together. 🙂

The block design is really cute though!! it’s one I would do again, just maybe out of scraps??

Should I keep this for the baby?? even though I already have the bubblegum dreams quilt planned for her. well, she can have 2 quilts right?? maybe this one to snuggle with and the bubble gum one for the wall…. You’ve all seen my daughter’s raggedy quilt after 7 yrs, so this one would be good for that, it’s small and fun and not a big deal (for me) if it gets worn out quickly…

Usually I don’t do this, but I thought this was funny.

I get this daily email from “good clean funnies”GCFL.net

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently, I was asked by a
funeral director to play at a graveside service for a
homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service
was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentucky back
country.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost; and
being a typical man, I didn't stop for directions. I finally
arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently
gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight.

There were only the diggers and crew left, and they were
eating lunch. I felt bad and apologized to the men for being
late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down, and
the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else
to do, so I started to play.

The workers put down their lunches and began to gather
around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no
family and friends. I played like I've never played before
for this homeless man. And as I played "Amazing Grace," the
workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept
together. When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and
started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was
full.

As I was opening the door to my car, I heard one of the
workers say, "I never seen nothin' like that before, and
I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

Why can't men just ask for directions?

  1. Of course you should keep the charm quilt for the new baby. I'm sure it will get tons of love.

  2. I can't believe how much you get done in a day! You are amazing! You accomplish soooooooooo much! Even with the tooth problem! Wow!

  3. What a sweet quilt and I definitely think you need a couple…..or more new quilts for the baby!
