Ahhhh table topper

After the frustrating quilt I wanted to work on something “simple” and quick

I still had the Ahhhh Topper on the shelf, un-quilted and I was looking thru a book at the library about a quilt with odd edges and it said to stitch 1/4” from the edge with the backing and batting and right sides together and then turn it inside out, LIGHTBULB moment, I knew I had to try that with this one.

I removed the rest of the cardstock pieces and ironed it flat, it was a little bit tricky since I didn’t cut the fabrics precise but I could still see the creases from the cardstock, so I cut out a piece of purple fabric to match and a piece of scrap batting

Pinned it

And sewed on the crease all the way around leaving the bottom open to turn inside out.

Then trimmed it all and cut the corners close to the seam and snipped the inside corners

Then turned it inside out and ironed down the seam allowance on the opening

I pinned the opening closed and stitched with a walking foot close to the edges all the way around, then quilted it.

Here’s a look at the back.

I love how it turned out!

Here’s to TONYA and all my other online friends Smile

  1. Oh I love it! And I love the cyber hug sign too. I wish we could ( together) film a video of this technique. I'm going to share this blog post around.

  4. I use that technique with my potholders and tablerunners. Don't think I'd do a large quilt that way, but it works great with small projects.

  5. The method of finishing the hexie quilt is wonderful! I will have to use it on some odd shaped quilt some day. And I also really like the On-line friendship message.

**Ker-Ching **Ding-a-Ling-a Ling**(that's the sound of Whistles whistling and Bells ringing) Thank you for sharing a GENIUS idea. Like all the best Genius ideas it's something really simple, that no-body thought of before. lol. Also Thank you for explaining about the ironing it flat step, I would have tried to sew from the folded in line and then would have had a misshapen stuffed edge mess on my hands. I will for sure try this one next time I EPP Hexagons.
