Accuquilt Go! Challenge–kite die

accuquilt go challenge

This month’s challenge die is the KITE die (hummingbird block)

I think this die is SEW much fun!

-Ha! looking at this picture, I guess THIS is where I got the idea from….

Scrappy hummingbirds/kites with white backgrounds.

Or you can do one that’s ALL scrappy, but at least with a lighter background!

Now I think I like this one better!

I looked at my quilt piles and I actually don’t have any truly BOYISH quilts that I could give away, so I came up with this idea.

(40 x 48 with border)

or this one

or a really small one (30 x 38)

image

and less than 1yd of each of the 3 fabrics!

Here’s another boyish version

1/2yd of the light blues and 1yd dk blue.

and here’s one with an inner border.

I really like this one, so I started cutting!!

I didn’t look at the time, but I cut the pieces out really quickly.

and started sewing, here I reminded myself that the fat end of the triangle also needed to match up to the fat end of the kit, but it was really fool proof, as the notches matched perfectly!

Easy iron toward the triangles.

I finished the top is less than 2 afternoons.

Now I just need to quilt it!

the hummingbird block is already in EQ7

Here’s another hummingbird quilt with sashing

(Connie made one like this)

Or you can create the kite block as a single 4” block

Look at this layout

This one looks like arrows!

Here is a 2 tone version

A boyish version?

image

interlocking arrows- almost like M.C. Escher…

And another funky version

Since my vacation I haven’t started cutting out the pieces yet, so wait and see until next month, to see what I’ve done with the die Smile

Have you used it yet?
