Accuquilt Go Challenge- Sunbonnet Sue

This month’s Accuquilt Challenge is the Sunbonnet Sue die (and I used the matching CD as well)

GO! Sunbonnet Sue (55061)

and the CD

GO! Sunbonnet Sue Embroidery Designs CD by Marjorie Busby

I was so excited to get started and do have another “plan” but we’ll see if it happens any time soon, here I just decided to do a test block and used leftover blue scraps from the bible quilt I finished in May

I ironed on heat N Bond on the back of the pieces (already cut to size)

Then laid them out on the die (one fabric with the paper on the back counts as two layers)

Here’s the pieces all cut out

Then I transferred the files from the CD to a USB and inserted into my machine and programmed the thread colors to match the fabrics

Step one: it stitched out an outline of the bonnet, the dress and shoes in white (hard to see I know)

Then I used my craft iron to fuse the pieces down after removing the papers from the back of the fabrics.

after that it outlines the arm and hand

and I fused those down too with the craft iron, then left the machine alone

and 20 min later this block was DONE!

LOVE the detail on the bottom of the dress, that green is embroidered! and the beveled edges are just so cute.

I then added a few borders

and decided to make it into a small pillow, after turning it, I outlined the outer edge in white too (leaving the bottom little bit opened for stuffing) which I then stuffed with fiber fill and sewed closed.

It’s SUCH a cute die and embroidery set, I’m so happy I got it and want to make something else with this die.

Have you made a sunbonnet sue quilt?

If you have (Go or not) link up below.
