A Strippy table topper in batiks

I had this plan in my head of making this as a table topper for Island Batik’s theme for December ( whimsical and wonky) but after it was done, it’s not wonky and it’s not really whimsical either and I needed a blog post for today, so why not!?

Remember this quilt I made in February with a 2 1/2” strip set

From each of the strips, I had a section leftover about 8” or so.

So in EQ I came up with this idea, I’m sure Connie somewhat inspired me (she often does with her table runners/ table toppers)

The EQ sketch is about 16” x 32”

I found that I had enough of solid black batik too so I got out my 2 1/2” strip cutter die from Accuquilt and cut strips. Then I subcut out (16) that were 4 1/2” long, (8) 6 1/2” and 2 1/2”

and here’s my sections ready to go

I sorted the colored strips into a nice ‘rainbow” order and then I sewed a 2 1/2” and 8 1/2” to the first, (2) 4 1/2” to the next one and alternated to the end.

Then sewed it together like this!

And I quilted it and added black binding, the quilting is dense pebbles and straight lines on the logs

I used a grey batik for the back so the quilting looks really cool!
