I finally quilted this pineapple quilt recently.
It started off like this in EQ, I often start scrap quilts by looking at my scrap bins and here I notated that I had lots of tan, beige and yellow which was kind of odd, then a bit of black, plus then I found this baja orange old batik, I’ve had for years.
I love my pineapple die from Accuquilt because the pieces are small, but during the cutting I decided to swap the tan with black and make the corners orange, the middle square was that baja orange batik, I used these as leaders and enders for a while and made 20 blocks
Then I sewed them together like this
and then added a border, I used a solid orange as an inner border (it’s a bit different than the triangles) then the batik on the outer border.
The quilt now measures 48″ x 58″
I quilted it in a design called “plumeria” and added a black and white striped binding.
For the backing I used the REST of the batik or whatever it’s called, it was only 32″ wide or something like that so I had to add more fabric and I THOUGHT I had made the backing big enough but didn’t double check and when I got to the end I saw this! so I had to mark it, take it off the frame, add more fabric and put it back on…..what a pain!
Here’s the back….. I had so many tension issues and thread breaking with this fabric too, it’s really that funky batik, I’ve washed it several times, but it’s very stiff and odd and like I said I’ve had it for years, I think I got it on eBay for a steal, directly from whatever islands it was (Bali, Indonesia, not sure)
anyways, it’s done and I DO like the look of the front, all scraps, so really didn’t spend any money on yardage, it was stuff I had around anyways…. I’ll donate it probably 🙂
