A lady at church walked up to me last Sunday and gave me a belated birthday gift and I didn’t open it until I got home.
It was a pincushion!! – she knows me well 
Can’t figure out how she managed to do this braid, I see tiny hidden stitches, but that takes quite some work!

Meanwhile I’ve started some tedious sewing for Island Batik’s March challenge!
And I’m about half way done with the hexagon mermaid quilt!
also someone commented a while ago about my Women of the bible blocks and I decided to bust them out again and I saw why I kind of stopped, the next several blocks are tricky or tedious too bit I managed to FPP one block- This is Wise Woman of Abel
The block is 6 1/2” so these squares are tiny!!

Kind of new to quilting. What does FPP mean?
a pretty pin cushion. I started my women of the Bible this week but the blocks are all 10" or 15" so presume I did not get them all downloaded I have 40 in total and have changed most of them to 8" or 12". I do not have a wise woman of Abel on my list.
I'm dying to know how to make that pincushion!
That pincushion is a blast from the past! I think most of the women in my family made throw pillows with that design across the front, then they were placed on each end of the sofa. They were used of course, but I thnk also to show off one's stitching. I remember poking around thru those folds to see how it's done. The ones at my grandmother's and old aunts' were made out of nice fabrics. At our house I remember some made from corderoy (Yes, they were thrown in the direction of the siblings occasionally :/) I've got an email into my mom, to see if she can remember what it's called.
My mom remembers doing it, but not the name. Nosing around on the internet, I think it's what called Canadian Smocking, although, I haven't yet found the specific stitch, but there are some lovely ones online and some great videos.
