A dice quilt

I don’t know what else to call this quilt, other than a dice quilt.

This started after I got inspired by fellow MMF ambassador Mel,

she posted blocks made with different “rules” based on dice rolls.

Of course I figured I’d use Accuquilt dies!

I used Mel’s list with a few changes, so that’s 6 different things

Then a QUBE set has 16 dies, and I have 24 bins of scrap fabric colors.

So I borrowed Bjorn’s dice, one 6 sided, one 8 sided and one 12 sided die. (The 8 and 12 dice I would roll twice)

My first die roll was 5/11/10 so Split complimentary, die #11 and color #10 is dark red in my stash

Split complimentary of that is light green and turquoise, so I got out those bins and dies

I came up with this in EQ!

and I cut out the pieces with the 6″ qube

for some reason I forgot to take a picture of this block and I won’t show all the others individually but here’s all of them together

The blocks are wild and I honestly didn’t like them, nothing tied them together, then I decided to split them up and use white 6 1/2″ squares between and that helped a little.

It measures 30″ x 47″

I quilted it with a design called “feathers ala mode”

the backing is a yellowish green print from connecting threads

I’m still not totally loving this quilt, but it was still fun.

If I do it again, I’ll change some things

1. use rafflecopter to pick a number instead of dice for anything over 6

2. maybe use solids or at least the same fabric line

3. maybe pick blocks from the qube booklet?

    Hello Bea,
Ever since I met you and saw your wonderful trunk show and presentation, I have been devoted to your web site. Followed the fifty states 2020 Quilt. Time passes and after using my accuquilt to cut all the pieces in Kona cotton I find that I need your pattern to do it right. Problem is your shop wanted paypal and I could not do it. Please let me know how I could by the pattern using credit card, debit card or personal check. Thank you for any help and maybe when my quilt gets done I will share it in the blog. Thank you for all the enjoyment on your blog, Harriet Wetherell. ( Plano quilt guild, plano tx)

  2. Looks like fun! I like this quilt, Bea. It’s just like a sampler quilt. Wouldn’t it be easier to use the Random Number generator than Rafflecopter to choose the numbers?
