a bit of sunbonnet fun

As you may have seen before, I made these sunbonnet sue blocks last year for the rainbow QAL, it was fun!

I got the die for sunbonnet Sue from Accuquilt and also the embroidery set for it. (Marjorie’s)

I played around in EQ with different ideas,

plain borders

sunbonnet1

a scrappy sashing with solid border?

sunbonnet2

or scrappy geese with a solid sashing?

This was the layout I decided on, but instead of black I chose a beige print

I made the geese borders and sashing and binding strips all at once, then got to this point and realized I was out of fabrics! I can cut one sashing strip too few and since it’s 9” blocks, the sashing is 2 1/4” done, so cut 2 3/4” and my binding strips were 2 1/2”!!

So I just HAD to place another order with connecting threads and even though I needed less than a yard, I felt I needed more solid white, then these other two fabrics just jumped in the cart too! Solveig and Sonja wants something made from the cat reindeer fabric and I had planned a shirt of the bottom floral, but now I’m thinking I’d rather try a OBW quilt again!

well I DID finish the top and it looks great!!

now I just need to quilt it!

I love the flying geese for the border. It really showcases the quilt beautifully.
